Just Starting Out On Fiverr

Good luck with getting Gigs.

Make sure you post your gigs in as many places as possible. Twitter seems a great place to start (ask for retweets - you may even get them from people who have high follower counts). Make sure you include a short video introduction for your gigs (check Fiverr's requirements for video first) as they seem to increase engagement and trust too. In the beginning at least, try to over-deliver. Include a bonus item, even if it's just a PLR ebook and respond quickly if someone has a problem.

Also be sure to over-deliver especially while you are new. You will get repeat business and the main thing...GOOD REVIEWS. One bad one can really hurt when you are just starting out.

You may have an issue on your writing gig that you'll likely want to rectify. You say you'll be the customers personal writer for $5, but it's an extra $5 for research.

Research and writing go hand in hand.

You can't know everything about every topic. I'd imagine that's going to hold clients back from hiring you. (for that gig. I didn't look over the other two)

I've been writing since 2011 starting out on Elance. I had my own website and included a note in each content pack delivered, thanking the client for their custom and just putting the website address below my name when I signed off.

Since quitting the marketplace, I've retained my clients, gained some referrals and been able to increase rates.

When I first started though, I did offer those low rates to get clients booked up, but those rates were only applicable to a minimum order value. Single page articles were $7, with 10 priced at $50. That was 4 years ago. Since you're on a everything's a fiver platform, you don't have that luxury.

Five bucks is ridiculously low for freelance writing now!


Passion for writing definitely helps, but if you're in it to build a business, the service needs to be sustainable.

As a freelance writer myself, I can tell you that when I'm busy, some of the writing process is outsourced to researchers, proofreaders, and/or editors. If I were to start from scratch, I'd offer the services to other writers for five bucks.

I will research your topic for $5
I will proofread your article/blog post for $5
I will edit your article/blog post for $5

Those are three components to writing. That's $15 there when combined, so when you add in the freelance writing aspect, you're up to $20 per article/blog post. Right now, you're offering it all for five bucks.

I hope you can see where I'm going with this and be able to think outside the box. If not, it's using the platform for lead generation purposes.

You provide the smaller components of the writing process to clients. In your content delivery packs, you include a text document, thanking clients for their custom, reminding them of your other services and maybe if Fiverr permits, offer a discount on a repeat order. Maybe a BOGOF offer. When you put your name at the end of the thank-you note, put your web address below it. On your website, you offer the writing service. That will include all three of your gigs, plus the finalised article/blog post. Suddenly $10 or even $15 per article/blog post isn't so expensive to the client.

Make sure your gigs are priced competitively by searching for similar gigs. Check out how many words they offer for $5.

Keep in mind that a large number of Fiverr buyers buy with the mindset of getting as much VOLUME as they get while spending as little money as possible. Fiverr isn't geared towards premium buyers.

Also, you might want to pick a BETTER VIDEO for your writing gig. Seriously. Sell your professional background. Sell your experience. Sell your personality. The animated video you have up might be turning off prospective clients. Plus, the music's kind of, well, distracting...

@writeaway - You're spot on. I was attempting to highlight the witty side of my personality with the first video, but it missed the mark. I think I knew it wasn't awesome, but I needed to hear it from someone else for some reason - so thank you for that.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts if you want to check it out. My proofing and editing video is up next (with its, uh, unfortunate soundtrack).

I also agree with your analysis of the Fiverr writing market, noting that quantity trumps quality for buyers. I may need to adjust my gig parameters to attract more buyers, especially initially. Ultimately though, I must play to my biggest strength, which is composing quality pieces. I am not the guy who will be churning out ten articles a day.

You can attract attention by offering something different and more useful.

I mentioned this in another thread here but don't be afraid to offer a full refund if you are at fault...or even partially at fault.

This recently happened to me when receiving a voiceover gig worth about $60.

The seller delivered my finished work with minor mistakes three times, but was 100% good to go on the fourth. He offered a full refund due to the hassle, but due to his good attitude and willingness to make everything right, I gladly paid the full price.

Today the Freelance take a good position in the Online place. Most of the Student are doing this freelancing. Of course it is a good work also. One can easily work here, if anyone has some skill. There are many freelancing market, beside the Fiverr, you can work other freelancing market places also. You are working on Content development, Proof reading & Online research.
