Using Hubpages to start

I decided I might use Hubpages to start off with and market some of the affiliate products there. I thought it might help me get started without spending much money up front. Also, I learn by doing and I thought this might give me some good insight to what's really happening and once that finally happens, I can buy my domain and do something bigger.


My question is, has anyone made any real profit doing this? Would I be wasting my time?

    Gone are the days when Hubpages and Squidoo use to do wonders for a website. You should invest your time and money in activities that can help you achieve organic rankings and conversions.

    Hubpages is very strict on what they consider promotional content - they have a very wide definition and will either decide not to publish your page or will unpublish it if their rules change in the future,

    All the lenses I had on Squidoo that were perfectly fine got moved to Hubpages and then unpublished as being overly promotional.

    Any free website is outside your control and is not to be relied on.

    Splash out $10 on a domain and a few dollars on hosting and stay in control of your business.

    Only use sites like Hubpages as support and even then assume that they are a fair-weather friend.

    Avoid Hub Pages.

    I've known countless marketers devote themselves to their HP businesses, only to lose them for no reason. An online business is, in many ways, no different to an offline. You need to invest. Speculate to accumulate, and all that. If I were you, I'd grab a domain (99 cents with a Godaddy coupon) and some cheap hosting. Seriously. If you're going to build content, never do it on someone else's site.

      Iam totally in agreement with Tom here.

      Avoid it like the Plague. It is a serious waste of time with NO long term payoff.


      People have lost many nights sleep over building businesses with Hub pages and Squidoo only to find them totally destroyed .

      Just say NO !!

    As always I say you should consider on investing some money up front for building a long-run successful affiliate marketing business.

    You can use Hubpages to support your main money making website. but it will not be your main focus to make promotions for affiliate products.

    There are some restrictions on using Hubpages, and not everyone can use it effectively so before publish your content read carefully their guidelines.

    From the free web places Hubpages is not so easy to convert traffic into sales.

    If you really don't have enough cash for hosting try:
    - WordPress sites
    - pinterest
    - zazzle
    - perhaps Facebook (I never tried this one)

    See them as the quick throw away places they are. Use them but don't build your business on them.
    Do them all on one niche and buy hosting as soon as you have enough money and use the web 2.0 sites you build as a place for relevant backlinks.

    My experience is:
    Squidoo used to make me about a $1000 a month extra. When the pages moved to Hubpages that changed into $10 a month, while the traffic didn't drop. I transferred the pages to my own site and the earnings are up again. Hubs layout is not flexible and converts really bad for me (and a lot of others I hear).

    If you want to do this right, you should get your own domain and start your own website. Hubpages are not what they used to be, probably because of the too many users having the same plan as you do.

    You'd be better off investing on a self-hosted site on your own domain. At least, you're building an asset you can build and sell.

    Hubpages can't be transferred. All that work... wasted.
