IE7 - downloads won't complete

Since a day or two ago any download using IE7 fails to
complete in that it hangs (not responding) after reaching
the end of the download process. However the file is
completely downloaded.

A system restore to (I think) a previously working state did not help

Any ideas please ?

Thanks
Harvey

IE 7 sucks when it comes to downloading, at least from my own experience.

I've given up on IE and switched over to FF.

It has worked fine for me in the past. The problem has just started.

    Hi Harvey,

Try deleting all of the temporary files on your computer - are you running Windows? If so, then in your Start Menu / Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Cleanup

...the Disk Cleanup will delete temporary files on your computer.

Sometimes they build up to HUGE files.

In your browser options in IE 7, it's also worth deleting temporary files through there as well.

Sometimes when downloads hangs at the end of a download it's because the browser is moving the file from a temporary area into the location you saved it in.

I'm not sure if cleaning out the temporary folders will fix this, but it may do!

    cheers

      Sam,

I did try clearing the cache (the cure for most evils) straight
away but it did not help.

I've now used cccleaner to remove files - but no luck

      Thanks for your suggestions though

        Hi Harvey

I have had this problem also with IE7.

By fluke I did a page refresh and the download completed.

I do this all the time now and it seems to complete the download.

        Must be worth a try!

Using windows to download files is asking for trouble.

          1. IE is integrated with your operating system so if anything goes wrong it can really stuff you up

          2. Quite often if it is an unusual file etc it will get corrupted.

          3. It is open to all sorts of bugs

You should always use a donwload manager to control your downloads and also it has the added benefit of being able to set times to download, if it doesn't finish you can come back and keep going from where you left off and so much more.

There are a number of managers. One I use is called flashget and its free:

Another very good one I have just started using is Free Download Manager.

            Quentin,

Ironically this is what I recommend to my customers
who cannot fully download a file though I've not used
            it myself.
