Multiple Specialized Blogs, or General Blog to Build Myself as Brand

I have two info products that I am working on. Let's name them project #1 and project #2. Customers of #1 may have interest in #2, but customers of #2 most likely won't be interested in #1. Neither product is IM related, but I will probably come out with an IM product after I complete these two projects. Customers of 1 and 2 are not a specifically targeted audience for IM products, but they will both have more interest in IM than the general public. I will blog a little about my IM and copywriting experiences from the beginning, but my blog most certainly won't be an IM blog.

So my question. Would it be better to break up my projects into two very specialized blogs and then create other specialized blogs for my future products, or do I build myself as a brand and let my whole audience know about all my products? The reason I'm thinking about only doing one blog is because I read voraciously and can write interesting articles on subjects not related to projects 1 and 2. For example, writing an article on one of Robert Greene's 48 laws of power. I've written forum posts like this on other forums that I frequent and I've always gotten a very good response.

    Hey Nathan-

Unquestionably, you need to build a brand....especially when group 1 has things in common with group 2. So do a little market research and try to discover other things they also have on common, then those are the topics you'll build your brand around.

The only way I'd see you not going the brand route is if group one and group two won't like each other....sort of like a company making radar guns for cops and then selling radar detectors to civilians. Otherwise, you may as well focus your efforts on one site and direct all the traffic there. You can always segment your email campaigns later by using specialized opt-ins to know who is who.

    I hope that helps.

There is a SHORTCUT to personal brand building....

    How?

    Let other brands VET you.

Thanks to Twitter, you can do this easily.

Go to Followerwonk.com, find influential people in your niche, engage them and ask them to share your stuff. Work on getting niche industry interviews. Quote people in your articles. The list is endless.

Eventually, their existing BRAND POWER will rub off on yours.

Beats having to work YEARS to gain traction.
