I have set up a domain name/web hosting with GoDaddy.com and I am so confused.

I also bought the website builder package but when I go to try to set up a theme it tells me that the domain is already in use. But I own this particular domain.

Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to do here?

How about you call their customer support? They should help you sort that out.

I am pretty savvy when it comes to this stuff and I love GoDaddy for domain registrations. In fact, I have thousands with them and recommend them wholeheartedly.

However, I am not a fan of their hosting. I bought an account once from there when i needed to host a couple of websites for a few months before I got another dedicated server online.

The end result was that I NEVER got those few sites online (before I got my server) and ended up just canceling the godaddy hosting account for a refund.

I was never able to get the hosting account to work.

To be fair, Godaddys customer support is excellent and throughout this ordeal, they were very responsive - just never able to get it to work. They (and I) tried and tried.

Also, they never balked when I said screw it..... Refund me and I'm going to just use a dedicated server. The account got canceled and I got my refund promptly. They were very nice.

    The lesson?

GoDaddy is a domain registrar and they're good at that. They're also good at customer service - which is why I have thousands of domains with them. If you want to buy a domain name, I reccommend them whole heartedly.

They're NOT a hosting company..... and aren't very good at it. If you want hosting, I don't reccommend them at all.

The bottom line is, GoDaddy isn't a bad company BUT.....

Use a DOMAIN REGISTRAR to buy domains. Use a HOSTING COMPANY to buy hosting.

      Complete agree with this.

Godaddy for cheap registrations but their hosting is just awful. Literally the worst thing I have ever used for a WP site,

That said, I still do not forgive them for supporting SOPA.

Switch over to Hostgator if you want hosting. I use GoDaddy mainly for domains.
