Can you advertise on Wordpress now?

Hello all

I have begun to start building my web page. It's a blog and I would like to sell products and advertise on it in order to try and make some revenue.

I decided to go with Joomla because I had heard in the past that you couldn't put banners or advertisements on wordpress.

I not liking Joomla very much as I find it difficult to use so I'm thinking about trying out wordpress. But I have now read that you can put up ads and banners now.

Is this true? And if so, is there anything I should do or avoid that could get my site penalized or shut down on wordpress?

Thanks everyone!

You're probably confusing wordpress.com with the CMS wordpress.

With wordpress.com you can create a free website, but it will have the wordpress.com subdomain. For example, www.izzyand87.wordpress.com. These free websites have ads disabled on them.

However, if you buy a real domain you can install wordpress there as a CMS and have all the ads you want.

There are two "Wordpresses". One is the website where they give you a free blog. You can't place ads on the free blogs on the Wordpress site.

The other "Wordpress" is blog software you install on your own site. If you install a WP blog on your own site, you can place ads on it.

If you're thinking of using Wordpress.com, DON'T DO IT!

Invest in a domain and hosting instead.

    Why?

You will have a tough time SELLING your site if it becomes successful.

If you're hosting WordPress on your own domain, then yes, you can advertise. Google AdSense is probably the easiest. Just copy and paste the code into a text widget.

I used to be a dedicated Joomla fan too - until the update before last made it sooooooooooooooo complicated!

You've always been able to advertise on a self-hosted WordPress site where you buy a web hosting package from Hostgator or whoever and install WordPress yourself. Your imagination is the limit with self-hosted.

You can't advertise on a site hosted by WordPress for you though. Most sites hosted by WordPress are in the form of subdomain.wordpress.com, but you can also buy a domain and host it WordPress. However, you are still limited in what you can do on the site, which incudes no adverts.

Wordpress allows users to put ads on their website ever since I can remember! It's also a much better easier script to use than Joomla, it's a lot more user-friendly amd there are more resources available for wordpress than there are for the other one (at least that's my impression)
