All the scores of people selling this information will be disappointed.

Eh. I sell information on how to use Twitter for business. But I am also always looking for MORE information how to use Twitter - and social networking sites - for business, so I don't feel threatened by giving out this information. People who are interested in a subject tend to study multiple sources, reports, books, etc., some free, some paid.

I don't understand why people need this information - Twitter is so simple to incorporate into your marketing that it leaves very little to not understand.

For the basic functions it simple I agree but for searching and other things I don't think ordinary people could have thought of that.

Clearly the first page emphasizes looking at twitter from a businessman's viewpoint.

I would think that an intelligent man like yourself Andy, would be able to comprehend that not everybody has the same understanding of social media that we might have..

And that some people aren't as connected to social media as our community is. Have you ever tried to teach a carpenter to weld a wrought iron gate?.... or even worse, aluminium?

Each individual learns at different speeds and from different media or from content in different formats...

That is why some people might need this information.

Great share, Dana... always knew you were a cool chick

      Peace

        Hi Jay,

        You'd think so wouldn't you

The thing I don't get is why so many 'business' people seem so utterly unable to even think about something like this without wanting someone else to tell them about it.

There are a LOT of people who are ready to proclaim their Twitter expertise and tell others how to use it, but most of them are just talking BS and really just want to be seen as an expert so that they can sell people stuff.

Twitter has become one of those subjects where there are now people trying to make others think there's more to it than there is, so that they feel like they need someone to explain it - which is where they step forward.

I'm all for helping people and sharing information (as you know), but it just irritates me when people who really have no idea how to run a successful business just jump on things like this an make others feel ignorant so that they can sell them something.

It's classic snake oil marketing - give them an itch to scratch and then sell them the relief.

That's fine when there's an actually problem, but too many people are creating problems just to sell solutions.

It makes normal hard working individuals who are already struggling with how to juggle running an online business feel like they need to learn about yet another 'essential' new thing, which is far from the truth.

        Andy

If it is so simple, then why do you think Twitter came out with a guide in the first place? Look, I started a business that went from zero to $5million in sales in less than 4 years. As a business owner, you do not have time to do everything yourself even though a lot of business owners do which often times hampers their growth. As a business owner, You are wearing a million different hats every day and if you can find reasonable advice for a given subject at a reasonable price, you go for it. Sure you could learn how to do all your finances...but you hire an accountant. Sure you could learn everything about permitting...but you hire a legal team. Sure you could learn about designing your website...but you hire a competent web designer.

This reminds me of the story from Think and Grow Rich regarding Henry Ford. Henry Ford was made out to be a fool because the supposed simpleton did not know the things a wealthy man was "supposed" to know. The case actually went to court where Henry Ford was asked all sorts of miscellaneous questions that had nothing to do with building cars. Sure, he probably could have found the answers to the questions himself if he desired to do so, but after awhile of this line of questioning, Mr. Ford stopped everyone and reminded them that in his office, he had a machine filled with rows of buttons. Whenever he needed to know the answer to anything, he could push a button and the appropriate expert would be summoned. This specialized knowledge allowed him to build one of the greatest corporations of its time.

No different than a small business owner. Spread yourself too thin trying to take your knowledge from 0 to 100mph on everything is a recipe for disaster when you can easily buy or rent the knowledge of someone else. Just food for thought.

          E.

            Good point, well made.

I agree. That's my philosophy too.

I guess I just see too many people not even bothering to check something out because they've been told they need to buy an info product to learn how to do it - which would be ok, if the people selling the info actually knew what they were talking about, which most don't in this case and they're just making up things to say in order to appear knowledgeable to people who know less.

    Thanks for sharing this Dana,
Yes Andy, it is simple for many people but there are a lot of folks out there that do not begin to understand what Twitter is. I have personally been asked about it a dozen times from people who saw it in the news or somewhere else and don't understand the concept.
So this is great information for them.
