How to choose a niche

May be a basic question.

But

What is the best way co choose a clickbank niche, not just from a profit standpoint, but so it be a lot of fun going from zero to hero?

Btw I am a newbie, with a bit of failed experience in the past.

A good niche is one where:

    1) You have some competitive advantage (e.g. if you've been a runner all your life, you have some competitive advantage in the running niche, because you both know a lot about the topic and more importantly know the problems and needs and things that drive buying decisions of a runner) -> action: make a short list of your hobbies, interests, things you are good at... A good question to ask is: Is there anything that people (friends, family) ask me about when they need advice - anything where I am considered an expert, without actually trying? So this is one part.

    2) There is demand - this is the "profit standpoint" - Clickbank marketplace, but not only that, look at Amazon, research keywords etc. - make sure there are products and people are willing to spend in that niche.

    3) (not discussed very often) The niche is friendly to your planned promotional tactics (you have a plan for that, right?). For example, if your key marketing tactics and skill is facebook marketing, make sure your niche is very active on facebook; or if it's guest blogging or making relationships with bloggers, make sure there are many popular blogs on that niche.

Also note that regarding 1) the competitive advantage is relative. The more competitive the niche, the greater expert you need to be to compete. That said, contrary to what many people think, high competition is good, because it means that the demand/money is there. These days it's unlikely that you find something with low competition and big demand. Don't fear competition, it only makes you better. Translated to the Clickbank language: Don't waste time promoting the products with low gravity - they don't sell for a reason. Promote the popular products, but find your own way of promoting them, taking advantage of your competitive advantage.

Figure out what you're passionate about

Filter your passion list based on commercial value (you can check the gravity scores and avg sales figures of products on CB for this)

Filter based on number of competing sites promoting that product.

Eventually, you'll get a lucrative product that has PROVEN existing demand with manageable levels of competition.

First start with your strategy. How much money do you want to make, over what period? And do you plan on making that with many low ticket sales, or a fewer number of high ticket sales?

Then look for a niche where you can solve a problem at that price level.

There's no sense looking for $5000 solutions in the acne niche...but I have seen $250.

To make it fun, make sure the topic is something you are excited to talk about all day.

    Look for that overlap

A great way to choose a ClickBank niche is to read and follow Eben Pagan's "Niche Intelligence" report. I'm not an affiliate, I just think it's a great, free product.

You can get it at getaltitude.com.

One of the ways I ensure a steady mix of profit AND fun is to find a ClickBank with high gravity that I know NOTHING about. Not only can you make some money but it's definitely exciting learning about a whole new topic for the first time. Even if you fail, you'll still learn something

I've heard this from more people and it seems like some can make it work too. One advantage would be that if you are targeting newbies in that particular area, you can feel the same way they feel, have the same questions, so topics for blog posts or newsletter messages come naturally.

I've had problems in a niche where I know too much (investing/trading), because all the products and knowledge circulating on the internet on that topic seem like complete garbage to me (except a few blogs by enthusiasts which get like 100 visitors per month and don't sell anything, because everyone wants the "make a million trading 10min per day with this secret indicator").

I've actually tried a ClickBank niche where I had zero knowledge not that long ago, but didn't really take it very far, because I didn't enjoy it. So I'd say if you take this route, don't make your plans too ambitious (big authority site, active email list beyond the auto message series). Try to build something smaller and get results quickly, because you may lose interest in the topic soon and then it will be hard to motivate yourself.

Sell the product "stand alone" and promote the membership via follow-up. Let them see the quality, then offer them more.

  • Choose something you're passionate about - It will benefit you in the long-run being able to work on something you have a natural interest in

I would choose a niche that I am interested in and it is also important to have a lot of resources at your disposition in that specific field.

Choose a niche that you're interested in. If you're serious about building a successful business in your niche, you're probably going to be in that niche for at least 6 months, so choose a niche that you enjoy.

For example, if you're an athlete, you might want to go into the sports niche, weight loss niche, or fitness niche.

If you love money you might want to go into the internet marketing/make money online niche.
