Question About Changing Website Page Structures

Hey everyone- quick question. On my website, I use the "post name" permalink setting so I can get a main keyword in the link itself. However, I've been thinking about applying for Google News and they require you to have a unique 3-digit number within your link like the default setting provides

Basically, I'm trying to change from-

/writing-tips
to /writing-tips-372 or /writing-tips372

So I'm curious if any of you have faced this- what's the easiest way for me to incorporate the numeric system without destroying all my backlinks around the net? I thought about doing 301 redirects for all my blog pages (since News only pulls from that one section), but is that the smartest move? Any help would be genuinely appreciated.

From your post here, it appears that you are using WordPress to create/maintain your site.

Assuming this to be true, WP will automatically establish new 301 redirects in your .htaccess file when you change the permalink structure.

Note - there is no way to change the permalink structure for just the "news" section of your site. The new permalink structure (using the numeric post ID) will apply to the whole site.

I am using WordPress Sid.....and that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch!

The only other way I could see doing it was adding the numbers manually to each address (just to the blog section) then making my own redirects, but your way makes a lot more sense if it's automatic. Thanks again!
