Hello Everyone. I have been lurking around this forum for a few months so I thought it's time I said hello! I am a computer programmer from Australia and have started, as of this year, researching IM. My goal is to eventually escape the office 9-5 life. I'm not looking for a quick fix or easy income, but something I can work on a few hours a week to start with, slowly build up, and eventually make it my main source of income.

So far it has been rather overwhelming but I am slowly starting to understand all of the different terms and its starting to make sense. I'm starting to other think everything so I am planning on diving into some affiliate marking in the weeks to come.

Everything I have read so far suggests that I build a list and regularly email my list different affiliate offers. One thing that is a little puzzling to me is the amount of products I can email this list within any given niche. Take yoga as an example niche, there is only so many ebooks/videos I could try and sell to my list on yoga. Surely once they have purchased one or two of these books there wouldn't be a need to purchase another?

Or would a niche of yoga be too specific, and i would be better off working within the Health and well-being niche, and one of topics i cover is yoga?

Thanks in advance. Love this forum, keep up the good work!

Think of the big picture ...
For example, you may be able to draw some ideas from these national survey stats for yoga practitioners in Australia:

Yoga in Australia: Results of a national survey

    QUOTE:
The typical yoga survey respondent was a 41-year-old, tertiary educated, employed, health-conscious female (85% women).
    ...
Asana (postures) and vinyasa (sequences of postures) represented 61% of the time spent practicing, with the other 39% devoted to the gentler practices of relaxation, pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation and instruction.
    ...
Respondents commonly started practicing yoga for health and fitness but often continued practicing for stress management.
    ...
One in five respondents practiced yoga for a specific health or medical reason which was seen to be improved by yoga practice.
    ...
Of these, more people used yoga for stress management and anxiety than back, neck or shoulder problems, suggesting that mental health may be the primary health-related motivation for practicing yoga.
    ...
Healthy lifestyle choices were seen to be more prevalent in respondents with more years of practice.
    ...
Yoga-related injuries occurring under supervision in the previous 12 months were low at 2.4% of respondents.
    ...
    Conclusions:
Yoga practice was seen to assist in the management of specific health issues and medical conditions.
    ...
Regular yoga practice may also exert a healthy lifestyle effect including vegetarianism, non-smoking, reduced alcohol consumption, increased exercise and reduced stress with resulting cost benefits to the community.
    ...
Keywords: Australia, cardiovascular, exercise, health, injuries, injury, medical, meditation, mental health, musculoskeletal, quality of life, survey, therapy, women's health, yoga
    /QUOTE

I think most of the reasons why they're into yoga, along with the resulting effects of practicing yoga, could probably give you growth and expansion ideas for your planned venture?

Hi Brett, I too am in Australia and used to work as an IT person for over 20 years. I have been interested and engaged in IM for the past 5 years. There is definitely a big learning curve especially if you have no background in sales and advertising, which after all is more closely related to IM than information technology - this is the big mistake a lot of people make, because of the internet being the medium
Selling high quality information is the name of the game - and it is important to think laterally rather than vertically, what added value can you accumulate and transform into a product, what additional areas can be targeted and serviced?
The old fashioned idea of supply and demand is definitely at work here, so seeking out high demand 'niches' is going to produce better results.
Offering some kind of a specialist service is also potentially lucrative. But if you get involved with affiliate marketing remember it is very competitive, and traffic costs money, or time.
All the best with it all.

Hi! I think yoga is a good niche and it is good as it is specific.
But even yoga is not specific enough since yoga too can have subcategory like yoga for weight loss, yoga for beginner. If you want to set up a yoga course, you can have a beginner and advance course.
    Hope it helps, good luck

You can still market related products to your list in this niche. People who loves yoga are more inclined to purchase health related products... and there are a lot of health product offers for this niche.

For example, you may offer them anti-aging ebook guides or anti-aging health supplements and body cleansing or detox offers.

    Hi Brett,

Nice to see yet another Aussie in here. One way to find answers is to do searches in this forum because most questions will have been answered before.
But you are also asking good questions so people will give you feedback which you can use or ignore, depending on your own perception.

    Good luck!

    Hey Brett,
    Welcome
I must say this is a mindset to have when entering this industry. Slow and steady is the way to go.

Brett, with something like Yoga niche you can always cross sell into other niches with other products. People who are interested in Yoga may also be interested other forms of Meditation. Also someone who is conscientious enough to take up Yoga probably is the same way about their diet.

So nutritional cookbooks ( several at Clickbank) or selling them actual physical nutritional goodies could be the way to go.

    Really endless possibilities

    Welcome, Brett!

You've already received some good advice. I love affiliate marketing and it's a great place to start. As for me, I can never seem to get enough books. For those who are passionate about reading, you can always read ONE more...especially if it's one of your favorite topics. Furthermore, there are also several sub-topics to consider, so that should not be an issue of selling multiple products. With a good autoresponder series (offering lots of great content so that they stay on your list) you can set up your emails to sell the same products over an over again to new coming subscribers without doing a continual promotion on your own (your autoresponder does the work for you)...which helps you earn a passive income.
