Is freelance sports writing considered a niche?

I know you can make some good money freelance writing online, so I was wondering if somebody chooses to write blog articles for multiple sites online, is that considered a niche? If you write only sports articles?

Is there enough jobs out there to work full-time sports writing for different type of sports blogs?

Yes absolutely. Thousands and thousands of these types of blogs. And you just have to stay around long enough to develop contacts and build a solid reputation to see some results

I personally would not consider that a niche.
I would consider it a skill focus.
Or a sub niche but I may be underestimating the demand for Sports writing services and the profitability available.

A niche is in my mind a total segmented market area that you seek to influence while simultaneously capturing the value of that influence.

In the example you gave, I would not consider being a sports writer for blogs a niche without additional influence and capture of value.

If you developed PLR products, and other materials to market to sports blogs/offered a service to them, then you would be building a B2B/B2C sort of business that I would consider the niche of sports content

Actually, a sports writer is not a niche. When you say sports writer that covers a lot of territory. But if you said Big Ten College Basketball, or a specific team, or a spefic genre of a specific sport. I'd consider that closer to a niche.

You'd then be someone the major sports writers, blogs and even channels would want to interview for the smaller details they don't have time to always research.

For sports writing ; try magazines to publish yours work. The only challenge is making them know you are good so be sure to deliver perfection.

    Good luck.

Wouldn't consider it a niche either, BUT it is great if you want to offer those services. On fiverr, seoclerk, odesk, and other freelancing sites. You can actually make quite an income if you add you services to those sites.
