Best SEO and or SMM freelancers?

I've hired a few SEO freelancers in the past from odesk and freelancer.com and have had terrible experiences. Actually had OK results, but short lived because it was ridiculously spammy links, including blog comments on Russian language websites.

I'm willing to spend a little more money if it is actually VALUE. If there is an agency or person through freelancer or odesk that someone recommends, please send provide their contact or username.

I truly need an entire package of SEO/conversion optimization, email marketing, SMM, and possibly a PPC campaing. The problem is my website isn't really that big of a niche to be able to afford a $800/month service.

Hiring for search optimization absolutely sucks...and that's coming from someone who runs an SEO firm. Because when a new client doesn't know search optimization and I quote a price, I can't tell you how many times they come back with an answer like, "Well, this guy on Craigslist says he can get me 10,000 backlinks for $12.99 and that's all I'll need to dominate."

So I know that it's extremely tough for you because it is just as hard for me...that's why I only focus on local clients so I don't have to deal with the proving myself over and over again. I can just say, "Call Bob over at the hardware store on Main Street and ask what I did for him."

With that said, ask any professional you're talking to for specifics- the "how" is crucial in this conversation because you want all white-hat, evergreen techniques. If they won't tell you or claim that it's some kind of insider trade secret, then run as fast as you can. Likewise, if they use the words "automation" or "I use this awesome app for building thing automatically", those are bad signs. I real professional will certainly use technology to evaluate your site and see opportunities, but they'll also do the heavy lifting by hand.

Other than that, just ask for references that you can not only see online, but can actually call and discuss that person's contribution to making that particular domain rank well. Pay close attention to how they speak to you as well in emails and over the phone; professionals sound professional and they're happy to answer any questions. Also be wary of folks who offer a price without looking at your site and your competition first....because there's absolutely no "one size fits all" solution to make your site rank. It could be a week's worth of work or it could be ten months...and you need to know that up front before making a decision.

Finally, avoid folks who guarantee the #1 spot in Google for all of your keywords. That's an impossible guarantee to meet and even the best of the best can't deliver those results with 100% accuracy. For example, if you're in the "auto insurance niche" and looking to outrank Geico and State Farm (and their 10,000+ pages of content, tens of thousands of authority backlinks, etc), we would likely be talking 8 figures to make that happen. Now, that doesn't mean that you can't get onto the first page for longer keywords or use other ways to drive traffic in ultra-competitive niches...but any sort of guarantee would be a flat out lie.

So hopefully that gives you enough info to make an informed decision, and I can't tell you if $800 a month is a good price or a bad one for your site. It just takes someone taking a close look at it and giving you an honest opinion to figure that out.
