I REALLY need some technical help with a local realtors website

Hey gang!

I haven't posted on here in a long while but I am really need of assistance.

Here's the deal:

I realtor friend of mine built 937sold.com using godaddys website builder.

The website looks pretty terrible and I am hoping to talk them into letting me build them a brand new, wordpress based website.

Nevertheless, they are having difficulties with the IDX feed from the local MLS.

They want a listing search feature like the MLS search features here at ohiorealestateguys.com

Also, does godaddy allow for meta tags and site maps?

I really, really, really appreciate the help on this. Thanks!

Is it a feed? ...or do they have access to the local MLS database?

That search form is submitted to a PHP page on their own site.

That PHP page might do a couple of things to satisfy the search:
    1. it could simply redirect to an MLS server and the MLS server performs that actual database search,
    2. it could communicate server to server w/ the MLS server if the MLS has an API allowing them to retrieve the search results, or
    3. it could perform the database search and return results directly if the database is on their own server.

If it is a feed, the information in the feed needs to be stored in a database and updated to reflect listing changes as the feed is updated. Nothing can be done until you understand the data source and/or any previously exisiting methods of retrieval.

Also, does godaddy allow for meta tags and site maps?
I don't know the answer for this, first hand - but it is almost unimaginable that they do not allow for both of those. They are pretty much industry standard for hosting companies.

I recommend purchasing a high quality WordPress theme and plugins for $100-150 that has all the bells and whistles you need to make this happen. Search for "Wordpress theme MLS integration" for some themes and "MLS Wordpress plugin" for some plugins. There are some great themes out there that already have the IDX stuff figured out.
