Could Internet Marketing get you a chance to appear in Shark Tank and get a deal? What would you think it would take?

Rank #1 in Google and Bing for the term "shark tank" and then for all of the sharks' names lol?

Seems to me all they care about is bottom line. Have a business model that you can valuate in the millions and then hope its interesting, maybe?

      • How many sales do you have? Over what period of time?
      • What national stores (that we've heard of) carry your product?
      • What's your cost to manufacture the product?
      • Do you have a sample we can see, taste or see demonstrated?
      • Do you know your numbers? Does your valuation make sense or are you delusional?
      • What's your personal background (experience or education in this field)?
      • What's your product story? (How did you come to create it?)
Important Note: You get extra points( with Barbara Corcoran) if your product story can be told with "cracking voice emotion" and light tears.

Not by itself. To them, it's just part of your strategy to drive sales of your actual product (mostly physical but some have an app component). Some people have products that would work well for online sales but fail to realize this. Mark will then look at them like idiots. They want you to have a plan for your overall business and be working towards it. They don't want to have to tell you what you need to do.

Why do you want to appear on Shark Tank??? Do you need funding for something?

If so, I don't think attempting to get on Shark Tank is the easiest way to get it.

I think it would take a solid business plan, top to bottom, with the potential to make the Shark investors a ton of money with little to no risk.

Like Cam said above, I think there is easier ways to get funding other than Shark Tank.

I guess if you had a website and was able to jump through all the hoops to get on the show, even mentioning your website could potentially get you a whack load of new visitors.

In that case I would say any publicity is good publicity because web traffic rules supreme!

Joey is spot on...internet marketing itself is not a business, seems that so many people forget/do not understand this. IM is a marketing method to effectively reach the online marketplace, sell online and, in some cases, distribute product (Ex digital info products)

IM can also be a target market itself (where you have a business such as website design and target that toward businesses who do online marketing just as you might target a company's HR department if you sell HR software or training services)

By itself, IM does not = a Business

    take your idea and audition.

They probably do not want to hear that you have a list and want to promote affiliate products and need investment to buy solo ads.

It would take a real business, with a real product that can make real money for the investors... Quoting JB "By itself, IM does not = a Business"...

I've seen it work in reverse...

    Spy Escape and Evasion

Ex-CIA op appears on Shark Tank, gets backing...

...and I buy his IM product.

Decent course for the price, too.

I'm pretty sure a good app could get the Shark's attention. I remember a group of guys came in with a job directory idea and snagged all 5 "dragons" (it's Dragon's den in Canada) only for their jackass business teacher to come in and trash the offer. The group vanished in the sunset never to be heard of again.

I know for a fact that Mark, Robert, Lori, Barbara and Daymond all see the value in internet marketing, so a good enough product could definitely make it on Shark Tank. For example, the guy who draws a cat for you from a few years ago....if that's not pure IM hype, I don't know what is. There have been dozens of online-only concepts that got funding, so it is certainly possible with the right idea.

To actually get an invite to the tank though, you're really going to have to know your numbers inside and out with a solid monetization plan....which is impossible if you only market other people's products. So you would have to have your own product and it would have to be more than just an eBook that includes a few bonus videos.

Yes but he had proof of concept through existing sales!

Of course he did....very few "concepts" get picked up at all. But that's not what the original poster asked. He said what would it take, and I was telling him that it would take a great physical product.

If you're great at internet marketing though and that's your whole sales model starting out, then you are going to have sales...or you're simply not good at internet marketing.

I believe Sharks would favor a business that deals with physical products. I'm sure a good dropshipped business could spark their interest if it was making good sales.

I know a number of businesses have got on there through sales via SEO. And Cuban really seems to embrace SEO and on a number of occasions I have seen him talk about it.

They would take a bite if they see sales in the last 12 months.

Can you possibly develop a unique application or service that does not currently exist? Do you guys think you need strong sales before even getting a deal? Shark Tank is one of the greatest promotions a business can get regardless if they land a deal or not.

I do think that you should take your idea and audition. You just never know if you never try it out.

People here will tell you that you should not even try it but I say that you should.

    Worst case scenario:

    You don't get accepted.

Are you referring to an internet marketer being on Shark Tank?

    That happened before...

The guy was trying to sell them on how awesome his SEO skills were...

Only to be immediately shot-down by Mr. Wonderful, basically saying he could just hire someone to do the same.
