If you're running a legit email list, the answer is quite simple: educate your list members.

Even before they sign up to your mailing list, just tell them that you will be sending them a confirmation email.

They have to check their spam folder and get the email and designate that email as not spam.

This is the best way to educate your potential list members.

Moreover, by going the double optin route, you increase the likelihood that people who will actually get on your mailing list want your mailings.

There's just too much emphasis lately on packing as many people on to as many mailing list as possible.

People don't quite get the fact that email marketing is not a simple numbers game.

You can have a huge mailing list and make very little money.

In fact, a huge mailing list can actually set you back quite a bit in terms of auto responder feeds.

Instead, focus on attracting the right people.

You might get fewer people, but chances are they would open your emails more and would be more responsive.

This can all, of course, lead to greater profits for you down the road.

Otherwise, you're just simply playing a number's game.

This is the solution to your Yahoo spam folder problem.

    Educate them.

Pack a lot of value in your email.

    Recruit them right.

Otherwise, you're just simply playing the number's game and maybe wasting your time.

Another big problem with spam filters is the hosting provider your use. If other clients on the same server have used it for any type of spam and it has become blacklisted, that will prevent your emails from being delivered considering it's from the same IP.

Best option would be to check with if your domain / IP is blacklisted from email providers.

The best way to avoid them is to not send spam. Pay for a legitimate email service like aWeber. They work hard to white-list their product.

Learn about the email techniques that will keep you out of trouble . . . for instance . . .

    Can-Spam Act Compliance

Use titles and keywords that won't get you in trouble. There are lists of the usual "spam triggering" keywords online.

You have to work at it a little, but you will soon learn what to do and what not to do.
