Hello Warriors, I have a nich in mind and bought two domain names from name cheap. I have hostgator as a host I went to namecheap and filled in the form to transfer the domains and I got a message saying I have to wait 60 days. I would like to know why? and why do the e-books that tell you to get your own domain don't tell you about the 60 day wait, So now I am paying for a host with nothing on it for those 60 days. Maybe one of you that gives advice in your ebooks about how to buy domains and how to host them could tell people not to get the hosting untill 60 days after buying the domain name. I wonder if any one here has a tip on getting around this 60 days wait or how to speed it up. Thank You Sandra |

you are not looking for a domain transfer - you only need to change the DNS from namecheap's to hostgators, this takes a few minutes

You don't need to transfer the domain name to build a site and host it on HG. The domain is fine where it is - you need only to use the info Hostgator gives you about "point domain servers" - and go to namecheap and enter that info. Within 24 hrs or so the domain will be propagated through the web and pointing to your hosted site. You just repoint the DNS (domain name server) to the host server. Most of us will not keep domains and hosting with the same company for various safety/security reasons. The 60 days is standard and refers only to moving the domain - not to using it. kay |

Just login to your namecheap account > then click on: "manage domains" > "Transfer DNS" then delete the two namecheap server numbers and enter the two hostgator server numbers that they sent you - and that's it

Also, just so you know, that "cannot transfer" rule is so that the domain registrar you bought through can make sure you don't buy the domain then skip out or reverse credit card charges. If you do in fact sell the domain, you just have the buyer get an account at same domain registrar and then you transfer it to them or "push" it to them in the same registrar's system. The buyer waits the 60 days, then transfers it where they want it (or leaves it where it is if they like). So don't let the 60 day thing stop you if you get a hot domain and someone makes you an offer for it (or you decide to cash in) |
