Hosting a .com Domain in the UK

Does anyone know if there are any drawbacks to hosting a .com domain, built for USA traffic in the UK with a UK hosting provider?

The only drawback i can think of would be higher page generation times, the further your server is remote from your target audience. Ideally, page generation time should be less than one second. If it´s more than 2 seconds, you start loosing traffic. It´s very reasonable in the UK serving the US, unless you get huge amounts of traffic.

Isn't .com a global domain? And doesn't server loading depend on the hosting type you use for your site.

Just to clarify, i thought the premise was that server location was in the UK. It doesn´t really matter what your top-level-domain is, what matters is the location of your server.
I.e. if i were to serve my .com domain with traffic coming predominantly from the US and my hosting providers servers are located on the other side of the world, yes, you sure as hell would notice a huge difference and drastic increases in page loading times.

Is that answer any help to you lissylou?

.com is meant for a global audience. I do not believe there should be any difference whatsoever. Check this out regarding the famous "Daily Mail" in the UK:

If the the page is already optimized for US traffic, you might notice a minor delay in loading times - I wouldn't go so far as to say "drastic" (unless the visitor is on a dial-up).

I've personally hosted a number of .com sites on UK servers over the years and haven't experienced any difficulties.

Yes, there only real drawback is how quickly pages will be served to your US audience, but - truly - this thinking is pretty much obsolete. Given the connectivity speeds of most US users, it really isn't an issue. There are zero SEO pros or cons either way.
