Hi guys,
I am new here and new to internet marketing and I have been spending a lot of my time recently trying to learn more. I have been working on my own website but I am having trouble getting ranked on Google. I know about choosing keywords etc, in fact I have chose a few keywords that have very little competition but yet I am not getting on page 1. Is there something wrong I am doing here or does my website needs to be older before it is "eligible" to get on the first page of search engines?

Thank you in advance

I cannot answer you directly on your SEO problem since there are many factors why your site is not ranking but in general SEO takes time before it kicks in if you are planning to do the whitehat method so If you're planning to build a long term business, which i recommend the best way to get traffic while waiting for your site to rank is to use other traffic methods for your site.

    Below are a few options:

1.) Social Media - Twitter is a good one
2.) Paid Traffic - Bing Ads , FB Ads is good
3.) Forum Traffic is good a well.

What do you mean by forum traffic?

Forum traffic is when you are active in a forum of your niche, providing value and forum member click your signature link to go to your website to learn more.

Is any of your page indexed by google at all?

Have you checked how much impression your website is getting on the keywords that you are ranking? Check it on your google analytics.

Page 2 - 8 is definitely a good number and should be able to get some traffic from SEO already.

If you are already getting some impression but do not have a traffic maybe you should try to improve you headline. So you'll get more clicks to your site.

If no, have you checked how much monthly searches is your KW getting? A webpage on page 2 should already be getting some traffic unless the KW is monthly search is very low.

Also check the thrending of your keyword, the monthly search might have been bloated since they get the average from the previous months and the current month. example

    Jan 2014 - Dec 2014 = 10k / month search
    Jan 2015 - Current = 1k / month search

If you average that, you'll see that the monthly search should be around 3k but in reality the traffic already dried and only getting 1k per month and will even become lower as time pass.

Thanks. Can you tell me how I can check my impressions ? I have already linked Google Analytics with my website..

I really don't consider myself an SEO expert nor do I have enough experience to really be sure about what works but what I do know is that using backlinks is really outdated. I think what Google and other search engines mostly use to determine if you add great and relevant user experience to the search experience is your social presence. Do enough people like your posts, do you have an active twitter and Facebook page that is connected and linking back to your site, do you have lots of social activity around the material you put out and how relevant is everything to the search being done by a user.

If you're new, I really would avoid SEO. You're in complex and dynamic territory. Instead, I'd consider generating your traffic via other means: socials, being the predominant one.

I am actually slowly realising that. I am losing my will and determination to keep the updates on my website just because it is SO frustrating to get ranked in Google. I am actually trying other alternatives like the ones the other kind members here have suggested. In fact, I have just created my Facebook page and in a few hours I have already gathered like 30 likes, 5 are actually people who are not my friend list.. I know those are not big numbers but to me it is like the a SEA seeing that I only have like 5-10 visitors a day LOL

      Thank you guys
