Hi guys, If I want to send an email to my list and have them enter the names and email addresses of 3 of their friends to send an email to that I specify. How can I do that? do i need to send them to my website and run a tell a friend type script or can it be done right from their email? Cheers |

I might be wrong but I can't remember anything that would do it "from email". Whenever I've seen a tell-a-friend form it always was on a website/page. |
| In the first half of the year we are supposed to work for the taxman. I think that's a mistake. Help me to get rid of the taxman ASAP - thanks! (You, too, should make less mistakes!) | |

I think "Tell A Friend" marketing is a teribble method. I know some swear by it, but anybody that is a "friend" of mine that gives away my email addy is no longer a friend, and the person that emails me from getting my name through that method is reported as SPAM. I know others that feel the same as me. Something to think about. |

There is a way to do it, but I think that it's a bad idea since some of your list might be getting text messages and others might be getting HTML. Also, some people read their e-mail offline and that could cause issues. I'd say you're much better off just providing a link and having the appropriate form on a Web page -- where you might be able to do some additional marketing to your prospect at the same time. I agree somewhat with KimW and dislike "tell a friend" for the same reasons, but I think it has its place. For example, if you had a blog or something with some viral videos and you wanted to provide an easy way for people to pass it along to others who might enjoy them, it totally makes sense. I just wouldn't add that e-mail to any kind of mailing list, because then you're getting spammy. |

What I am trying to do is this. Send a coupon to my list (local restaurant) then ask the list if they would be so kind as to tell their friends to go to a special url on site and join my list to get the same coupon which is a $10 gift certificate. This way all the new people can get the gift certifiate as well but they first have to opt in. Whats the best way to do that? |

Very simple... just post a message to your list that says something along the lines of "As a courtesy to our list members, we are giving you a FREE $10 Gift Certificate to [Restaurant]. If you have any friends who would also like to receive this special offer, please tell them to go {URL}." Spruce it up a bit, but that's the crux of it. At your URL, you just have a message that says "Get a FREE $10 Gift Certificate with your free subscription to [Your List]!" and an opt-in form. Simple. The problem I see is that if you're providing this coupon to your list members, they might just print it out twice and give it to their friends. And for goodness sake, make sure you put the small print that says "One coupon per party" or something like that or people will print out a bunch and try to use them to pay their whole bill. |

I was also thinking of just letting my list give their friends a url to go to and join our list for the coupon but I was woindering if there was a way to make it easier for them to send their friends that url? I think if i can make it easy for people to send the url to their friends more will do it. Cheers | |
