Sifting and sorting through offers online.

Hyperbole is according to Merriam Webster, "obvious and intentional exaggeration"!

Obviously for the majority of online marketers hyperbole is accepted use and commonly practiced. In a very blatant sense it is over-used.

Personally however I find the over-use of hyperbole as demeaning to the reader because the underlying motive is profit at the expense of the reader's lack of caution and sales resistance.

It is demeaning in more ways than what I just mentioned above. It smacks of dishonesty and self-interest above the interest of an uninformed public.

The result is a feeling of having been 'had' by the vendor or merchant or affiliate marketer.

When it comes to promoting a product why not just tell it like it is without the hype and exaggeration?

Why not? It must be that without it the vendor, or marketer believes he/she will lose opportunties that otherwise existed.

Sifting and sorting through all internet originated hype is an ongoing task for me as I seek to establish and create a profitable market presence.

I welcome your replies and comments.

Sincerely,

I'm not really sure what you're referring to, but I'm going to assume it's things like the many "Make $1,000 a Day" ebook titles. I would think that most people would take them with a grain of salt and assume that either (a) the author is exaggerating a little; (b) the author is exaggerating a LOT; or (c) the author is totally full of pooh. You can be guaranteed that if the author *was* being truthful, then that $1,000 was his best day EVER. Maybe the day before he made $0.50 with the same system, but "Make Fifty Cents a Day" doesn't sound quite as good.

    Hi, Pilgrim,

    Hyperbole?

Are you referring to the very skilfully (expensively) written sales pages that take 10,000 words to say 'buy my product' and another 10,000 words to demonstrate why a sensible person wouldn't entertain the idea?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

      Hello artwebster,

You hit the nail on the head friend.

I have never read completely through that sort of fluff. Why the authors of such landing pages make them so muddled with superficial, artificial claims is beyond me.

Just tell me what you're offering and forget the song and dance routine I called intentional exaggeratations! Right?

Yes, indeed that is what I am referring to.
