How to use Google keyword planner without phone verication?

I tried to use the Google keyword planner to look up how many searches certain keywords are getting, and I noticed they now ask you to have an adwords account, and they ask to verify your account by phone before you can use it. That sucks. I'm not giving out my phone number just to do a keyword search.

Why do they need to do a phone verification? Is there any way round this?

Well how did you manage to open an account without phone verification then? Because they ask for phone verification when you open an account.

Come to think of it, why do we even need to create an account just to do simple keyword research? By asking people to sign up, it's just another way for Google to keep tabs on people, to snoop on us, it's all very Orwellian and wrong. Most of the internet is becoming very Orwellian now, you can't do anything without needing to sign up and give out your phone number or identity.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you need to change your perspective on things if you hope to make money at this. Why are you afraid of Google having your phone number? What do you think they are going to do with it? Keep calling and bothering you?

Now, Google the search engine kicks ass. Awesome product for me to consume for free. Google the behemoth International Corp that has privacy policies concerning my web activities (not phone number) that make me uncomfortable and more power than many countries I do not support. But, with those objections, the LAST piece of information I am concerned with Google having is my phone number.

I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill concerning the phone number issue. I would worry waaaaaaay more about your surfing data they harvest. Your phone number doesn't give them one damn insight into you - your surfing habits give about EVERY insight into you. Worry about that, not about an established, respected, Corp having your phone number (they requested to help prove you aren't trying to scam them).

Concerning the rest of it, why should Google GIVE YOU THEIR STUFF FOR FREE. You are demanding that Google let you use their private property and creation for your own financial gain, without ANY compensation to them.

You want way more than $20 worth of services from Google for free, it seems to me. In fact, you seem to think you are ENTITLED to them.

Google makes a lot of money off of Aff Marketers. I beleive it is their number 2 income stream. They have also expended a LOT of money try to deal with all of the Aff Markters violating their ToS and manipulating the SERPSs. They mostly want to make sure you are a real person that is not creating multiple accounts, been banned already, etc. For my issues with Google, I certainly think the phone number a completely reasonable request. Quit crying about it if you are SERIOUS about this stuff.

The keyword tool is provided for its PAYING CUSTOMERS - AdWords buyers. You seem to think they should just provide you their product to use for free and how YOU think they should.

All I am suggesting, from reading a couple of your threads, is that you need to change your perspective on some things, else you will hold yourself back being upset and worried about the WRONG things ...

But guys, the Google keyword tool used to be free and required no sign up of any kind! You could just go to their site and type in whatever keywords you wanted and research them. Then all of a sudden they make this stupid change. It makes no sense, it should've been left as it was.

Google makes an absolute fortune from its ads etc, there's no need to charge for a keyword search.

I don't see why they need my phone number. What is the purpose of them having my phone number?

First, it only feels sudden. This change was made ages ago.

You obviously don't own any Google stock.

The shareholders in any company - particularly a large, publicly traded company such as Google - INSIST on increased profitability year after year. By limiting a once free service to only paying customers - Google increased the profitability of their Adwords service, without raising prices (the cost to those paying customers).

I don't see why they need my phone number. What is the purpose of them having my phone number?
I don't either, but that doesn't mean they can't ask for it. It's their business. Their service. If they choose to make your phone number a part of the cost of the service... that's just a part of the price you have to pay.

    It makes perfect sense.

If you are really scared of G having your phone number you can buy a prepaid Tracfone for like $10 at Wal-mart. Why you would be (scared) is beyond me.

  • Keyword research is very important.

Just do the phone verification, if that's what it takes

Why don't you just verify it with your phone? Your number is secure with them if that's your concern.
