How to promote after ebook

I have created an e-book about list building and want to know the next step.

Must I promote a upsell (better product) about list building?

I was thinking that I would like to sell a product on a how to make money online with affiliate marketing.

This does not flow with the e-book but shouldn't the newbie learn about affiliate marketing first then list building?

If I promoted my initial product to be an upgrade on building a list, could I then sell them a how to affiliate marketing product? Would that be effective?

What should I do? How should I market?

For an upsell, you could sell whatever you want.

With that being said, I'd recommend trying to stick with something related to the main product.
If someone bought the main product, then they are already SOLD on that topic.. they've proven that they are extremely interested in it.. and are as hot as they are ever going to be.. so giving them something related to the main topic is generally a much easier sale.

For example, if a fisherman bought a fishing pole.. you could try selling him a tv but that's probably not going to be very effective.. Instead, why not try selling him bait, a tacklebox, or something along those lines?

Generally speaking, for upsells I like to go for something that:

1 - compliments the main product ( to figure out a really good upsell, ask yourself 'what's next?'

So let's say your main product is all about how to create a sexy wordpress site.. well after people create a great wordpress site, what's next?

Well, now they need to get TRAFFIC to it, right?

So in this case, a course on how to get traffic would compliment it really well and be a good upsell.

Let's say you sold a weight loss book... Well, what's next?

Well, after people get the weight loss book, they are then going to need to come up with recipes / meal plan to eat according to the diet. Which is why a Recipe book or software meal planner would be awesome. )

If your main product is on list building.. what's next? Well, now that people know how to build a list, the next thing they are going to be interested in is how to make money from that list.. or how to write compelling emails... so a course on List Conversion would make a great upsell.

    2 - Done For You

People are lazy. So anything Done for you is usually a BIG HIT for an upsell, and coverts insanely well.

So think anything Pre-made. Pre-made keyword lists, Pre-made squeeze page templates, prewritten autoresponders, copy and paste stuff.

Especially if it compliments the main course.. So the main course can show them how to build a funnel, and your upsell could be 5 pre-made funnels that they can copy/paste.

    3. Software / Plugins

This really goes hand in hand with the top 2. People see software as 'push-button' easy. It can help automate things.. and caters to their laziness.

So software / plugins are a great upsell.

    4. Coaching / Group coaching / more advanced training

if someone bought your product they are already sold on you. So offering them closer/more intimate access to you at a premium higher price can be a big win. You could sell spots to a private workshop, live event, group coaching, webinar, private coaching, consulting, monthly membership, etc.

Sky is the limit my friend. stay thirsty.

Thank you for your explanation very thoughtful and informative.

Does anyone else have a take on having a list building e-book but then selling them a affiliate marketing progam. Maybe telling them in the e-book that I would like to introduce them to a "how to" affiliate product and then send them more information about list building, so they can get the basics of affiliate marketing and then learn about list building?
