Well, the most obvious answer is you should use a keyword planner! I recommend the Google Keyword Planner, just google it

As others have mentioned, Google Keyword Planner is still good for this. It tells you how the competition is (high or low) and from that you should be able to get a sense of the PPC. You can even use a site like KeywordSpy to plug the keyword in and see the average PPC for it.

While you can use a keyword tool, you also need to get to know the products and stuff in your niche. Keyword tools should only be used a guideline. You should also know that the information that shows up is usually a month or two behind. This is why you need to get to know the leaders in your niche and get on their lists. You should also pay attention to JV launch boards.

  • No magic number when it comes to the searches. I just ranked a website on the first page for a 8000 search a month keyword with barely any backlinks. I have another keyword with 1200 searches and I have to use a lot of backlinks. Like whats said above keyword tools should just be used as a guideline This article on competition analysis explains it.

  • It's not the number of search per month what you have to look into. Some long-tail keywords are already taken even if have a low volume of searches /month like a few hundreds and you will have to beat competition in order to get some traffic. And in the weightloss niche almost every keyword is already taken, but still you must do your research to see if a keyword is profitable to you.

A good and small (yet profitable) niche my answer. Little-to-no competitors mean you can go in this niche, and exploit all of these keywords, and use them for fast traffic and cash. After you get the good traffic, make money from it - in the ways that we discuss here on the forum.

Well, As you want to find keywords for youtube videos, Google keyword planner probably isn't the best choice.

You need to know a few ways to generate keywords for YouTube videos. YouTube autosugestion feature, Ubersuggest and KeywordTool.io are just a few ways to do that.

From this Problogtricks's post, you can learn a few actionable ways to find keywords for YouTube videos.

Note: Make sure your video explains what behind the keywords. If your keyword is about "video game secret codes", but you use keywords such as "how to create a video game", those traffic not only will decrease the video's average retention time, but also sometimes generates a few complaints and downvotes too. So, be aware when selecting keywords for videos!
