Monetize my own URL shortener

Hi guys, I recently signed up on this forum. I am a Python developer and I've made my custom URL shortener service. Now, before publishing it, I want to monetize it so that users will earn money by shortening they URLs and I'll take a small percentage of the earnings.
Where do URL shortener services take ads from?
Can anybody help me please?
Thanks in advance!

Can you put it on a website and monetize the traffic it generates?

Does your shortener function like adf.ly? If so, you might want to study adf.ly's business model.

I agree, looking at another companies successful model is a step in the right direction.

The first thought that came to my mind was Adsense or Chitika. Use you're creativity. Become an affiliate for a company and promote something about the benefits of having their own domain name. I'm out of ideas after this. Study your competition, and attempt better marketing.

I'd say, first of all, study your competition and then, when you figure out how they do business, invest in some ad campaigns so you can get targeted traffic interested in what you have to offer.

I suggest integrating some sort of click tracking along with if possible. Might be easier to monetize with an added perk like that.

I think iCoachu had a good suggestion. Have you thought about how you'll market your shortener? Competition is stiff with shorteners like goo.gl and bit.ly already out there. How will people hear about yours over the many other popular shorteners?

I'd worry more about coming up with a marketing plan first, rather than how you're going to monetize. Focusing on money first is a straight shot to failure.
