Camtasia Help Wanted: EXTREMELY large file sizes being produced to AVI

Hi everyone...

I've noticed this problem since I reinstalled Camtasia 3.1.1 onto my Vista Laptop.

It produces extremely large file sizes in AVI.

here's a screenshot of my settings...

    Browse the installed codec pack - it is very unlikely to ever have such .. I recommend the latter set of k-lite. If you have installed this package, most likely you do not set the program to compressed video data - must choose algorithm for compressing video and audio .. I recommend DivX or Xvid for video and MP3 or AAC for audio

      AVI will also churn out HUGE file sizes.

      Why do you want avi anyway?

      If it's to upload to video sharing sites they all now accept mp4 and wmv files, which are great in quality and the file sizes are SMALL!

    why exactly do you need it smaller? do you need to stream it by yourself or what??

    you can encode the file to a much smaller file at mysite - check my signature. If it is a one time thing i could help you and check with my staff if they can give you free access though it does cost us money . anyway i will try to help. let me know exactly what you need...

    try going from stereo to mono, from 24 bit colour to 16 bit colour, and 15 or 5 frames/second.

    Use Super (free) and convert to .flv with one channel sound.

    I can reduce files by a factor of 10 using it it is really amazing.

    As was said depending on the video needs you can easily alter the frame rates.

    Michele,
    AVI is a very inefficient format. I think if you try producing your videos in the MP4 format you will have better luck. All the other ideas here are good also. Lower your frame rate if it makes sense (ie, powerpoint video). Go to mono on your audio and experiment with lower frequency samplings also. Camtasia has a web setting for production. Try that and see what it looks like. Getting the quality you want and the file size you need takes a fair amount of experimenting. Keep a log book of your tests so you know what works and what doesnt.

    I'm going to agree with Adeel. Avoid .avi with lengthy recordings. He mentioned MP4, but I don't think Camtasia V.3 offers MP4 option. It's available in version 6.

    But wmv, swf, or flv are good options (depending on what you intent is with your final product)

    Also, go down to 24,000 and mono for your audio (no less than 11.025) and no less than 10 frames per second.

    What was your goal with going to .avi?
