It depends on the kind of article, If it is quality and can learn a lot from it it is good. Why?

Because you audience will like it and it will trust you more. In the future it will help in whatever product you recommend.

High Quality and Long Articles with a lot of on page optimization is good for your SEO so that means more traffic to your site.

    I've seen someone charge $100 - $200 per 2000 - 3000 word article.

The best way is to go to freelancing site and ask for it so you can verify it.

Depends on the quality of the content.
As a reader, I pay much attention on the value of the content. I don't care how much it was written as long as it keeps my interest on it, that's all that matters. I also prefer content that offer visual presentation rather than just pure text alone.

"Article pumping" suggests low quality content, and search engines are trained to demote it. So it's a complete waste of time.

If a website is new, then posting 2-3 good quality articles a day is a good idea. After a while, I'd say continuing with 1 good article on a daily basis is OK, and then, when the website grows a bit (traffic wise, in terms of ranking ecc.), then I'd say 2-3 good articles a week is enough.

If you pump your website with your own articles, this is clearly the way to go.You always want to add your own content because adding articles that are not yours, is not the way to go.

Would I personally add articles that are not my own at a large scale? Probably not.

If the articles are original and high-quality, why not? But if you are pumping your site with crappy content or unoriginal posts that offer little value to readers, visitors will leave your site quickly, resulting in high bounce rate and eventually hurting your site's ranking.
