I HATE these "mobile friendly" sites. Is it just me?

It seems with all this "mobile friendly" movement websmasters don't care
about desktop readership anymore. One of the biggest problems I see
is the prevalence of "reverse print" (white print against black background
or other colors or pictures) which was a "no-no" for advertising. Yet
so many marketers are using these same templates.

Here is just one example (not picking on this webmaster in any way)

celltoself | Just another WordPress site

I just hate to have to read such pages. They may appear easier to read
on mobile devices but they really stink on the desktop. What ever happened
to simple and clean design?

Also not a fan of that style but if it works for some then more power to them. I personally find them difficult to read and distracting.

I'd hope that they're split testing and that the results are driving the design, rather than the other way around!

It would seem a little silly to focus on one platform or another these days, given how simple it is to cover both with a simple css media query..

Think of it this way Raydal, if they are making a mistake, there's less competition in the market for the rest of us

      Cheers,
      Michael

I may be totally wrong but I don't think they are split-testing this at all.
It seems like a trend and marketers are blindly following this trend.

I know that Ryan Deiss is a big tester and his company website has a
similar LAYOUT, but it doesn't have as much reverse print.

I'm thinking about updating my sites and even bought a WordPress
theme to do this but this chopped up sections--I'm just not a fan.
But I don't see many people complaining.
