They don't allow comments because many people post spammy comments and its hard to manage if yo have a big website with lot of pages and traffic

The only thing that sucks worse than having spammy comments...

    Is NO comments.

    :]

Either way, enabling comments can be a huge pain, and unless you have some type of "Authority" or "Guru" status site where you want to showcase how popular you are...

It might be worth it to disable comments.

Just my $.02, I mean there is no right or wrong answer.

(I know plenty of successful gurus who use comments, and plenty who don't).

For my WordPress sites, I would say 95% are total spam comments.

Occasionally I will find a great comment or one that is an actual comment on a post or article I have posted.

But for the most part I end up trashing the comments.I guess the spammers think their comments will be posted....

I think it is worth it to allow comments because you want to interaction on your site, especially if it isn't established yet. I read somewhere the other day that comments on blogs do rank better. Do you use the Akismet plugin to control spam?

Really? Even if your blog is about "basketball ball handling tips", and 5 spammers come to your blog and post messages like this:

      - "Get rock hard naturally, FAST!"
      - Viagra is king - not Elvis
      - MP3 music center
      - Discover our brand new money religion (no tithing necessary)
      - Download my money system! I made $931,038,011 last year!

This is the kind of interaction you want on your site?

I've found that even many comments made by real people are spammy because they just try to promote their blog -- they act kind of robotic and don't say anything useful. No wonder big sites aren't allowing comments!

Well because most of those comments are spam ones, you can place your comments on approval only, that way you can choose the ones you want to be public.

Moderate all comments before you allow them on your site. More than 95% seem to be spam. Their is a setting in Wordpress that allows you to block all comments or approve before the show up on your site. You can allow x number for a days a comment to be posted to an article. Limit it to a week or 10 days than it will be easier for you to moderate posts.

Comments almost seem like a waste of time to me personally. I had over 500 on my site at one point but when you start getting the same responses over and over, I decided that enough was enough for them. I understand that it may provide authority for your site and show new visitors how popular you are, but often showing the amount of social media shares will do the same thing. I would much rather somebody share my site than come in with the sole purpose of trying to leave the same comment day after day. I also have a page that is setup with my email address if they want to contact me personally and ask me any questions though

I do find out myself about this topic.

Many claim is better to let others comment.

is " does aid on SEO , etc " well this part I not sure is that true.
but I have random search around those popular sites ( mixture , some allow comments and the comments always new whereas some don't even show any comments which like you email to the admin )

Comments do nothing for SEO unless you have a plugin setup for Wordpress like I had before https://wordpress.org/plugins/blog-comments-seo/ I still didn't really notice that much of difference afterwards though. I guess it is really up to you if you want to have them or not but I decided that it was too time consuming to deal with all of the spam that I was getting. Like I said before, I would much rather somebody spend a few minutes to share my work or contact me personally if they have any comments

is good to leave comments from others ( this is why website , blog are mean for to let people interact , comments on your site )

well I do noticed some are regular spammer....it seem like have to individual remove and yes is a bit time consuming.

Comments almost never aid in SEO. If anything, they often are diluting your content. If you are expecting some SEO benefit by allowing comments, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

Comments MUST BE APPROVED before publication.

Akismet plugin sends most spam to your spam folder
    and gets wiser with use.

Also, record the IP of spam comments and you will see
recurring IPs. Then, ban those in your administrative panel.

This will cut down the time necessary to manage comments.

Also, use Block-Spam-By-Math-Reloaded plugin to cut down on spam.

    Hello,

Whenever I come across a blog site or video that is effectively "locked down" not allowing comments without the authors permission I think one of two things:

    1. Is the author trying to combat spam.

    or

    2. Does the author have something to hide in terms of not having accountability for either his content or products.

Free speech isn't perfect by no means, but it is better than the alternative of censorship. I believe in allowing a free for all and letting the chips fall where they may.

Basically if you are getting REAL comments and not comments from SPAM bot you are better to post them. So there really is no better way then manual approving them.

    what do you think?
Well, there's that and a move against "thin content" pages. "Thin content" being pages that offer no value to visitors. A comment page that doesn't provide substantial information is at risk of being de-ranked. And that goes for forums too.

Allowing comments is helpful in many ways like increased user engagement, traffic and automatic generation of related content.

The problems are spam threats. Using Akismet WP plugin is very helpful as it deletes most of spam comments automatically.

I think at the starting you must allow comment. It will increase the traffic activity on your site. You can use spam filter and manually approve every comment. If you have a WordPress site, you can do it quite easily by using plugins.

    update ,

I feel my site " might look like ghost site " because under my comments like empty.

well no choice I have to manually select.

Use Akismet plugin. As you say, if you disable comments it could seem a ghost website but on the other hand if you select manually it's gonna turn out to be really stressful once your site gets popular. Just try the plugin, worst case scenario you start to select manually the comments to keep and the ones to be deleted. Best of luck buddy

        Hey guys,

is it by default works like this ?

while you click on those people who comment on your site
it will go to their website I know that.

Just that I want it to open another window ..( like target _ bank ) function if you know what I mean

        or cannot be done?

Yeah they might have allowed comments at the start but as they grew they turned off such a feature. Popularity bring spammy comments from ''hot girls in your area'' or silly offers. Allow comments if you have a good eye for moderating them on a daily basis.

Unless you have some kind of a very strict, authority news site, then comments are always a plus, because they make your website more alive, allow interaction, sharing opinions, etc.

They are especially useful on personal blogs/websites, where you can communicate with your audience and learn what they would like you to write about. It's a win-win situation, you give them what they want and you get the audience/traffic.

my vistors click their name and will go their site.

never open another window which means my visitors leave my site and go there.

my intention is possible to open another new window if visitor come to my site on the same time click my visitors comments go their .

Genuine comments can help with SEO, but you leave yourself open to such rubbish from the spammers.

I was receiving up to a comment per minute!

So I've now installed a free spam comment plugin which seems to be doing the job well.
