Upgraded to Wordpress 2.8.2 - Now unable to edit widgets?

Hey Warriors

I've just upgraded my main blog to 2.8.2 and thought I'd go *crazy* and add a new theme too.

Due to the new theme, some of my widget titles now go off the page. I went in to edit them and lo and behold, no editing, or doing much of anything at all to my widgets.

Any other Warriors feeling this pain?

    Hi, Lesley,

Yes. This seems to be a problem for me too. I run a lot of blogs but keep one specifically to test the WP upgrades as they come in. WP 2.8.1 and WO 2.8.2 seem to have been introduced before the widget designers were given the specs so now widgets are playing catch up.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

From what I understand a whole slew of themes are not playing very nice with the update. I haven't had the nerve to change a theme yet, but after reading your post I think I'll wait until the themes catch up with the update

Ooh, good idea artwebster, I'll keep that in mind.

I did try the widgets with a couple of different themes including the default, but all widgets are just stuck, won't open, won't move, won't do anything at all. There are a fewI need to edit, but none of them are working at the moment.

    This is not good!

I wrote and maintain a WordPress plugin (widgets are part of plugins).

Plugin writers get no more notice of WordPress updates than anyone else so there will always be a delay between a new WordPress release and fully working plugins. Therefore, if the plugins that you use do not say that they have been tested with the new release, assume that they do not work until you have tested them yourself. Even if they are meant to work it is always a good idea to test them before updating your live system.

You can fix the "stuck" widgets easily. Just go to Appearance/Widgets - look up the top where it says "screen options" and click the link where it says enable accessibility mode. Your widgets will now have a link that says "add". It won't be drag and drop but you can move them into position etc and edit them.

      Hi Leanne!

I actually tried that and the "screen options" tab doesn't do anything when I click on it. Got any ideas?

Alternatively, reload the older version which worked fine and look out for updates regarding working widgets for the new version.
