Facebook V Google Plus for Marketing

This is very interesting I think... The other day I was doing some social media marketing. I had just finished writing and had published a new article on my website. The topic involved a controversial issue within a popular niche. It has several images and is well set out with bulleted lists and Attention grabbing titles and headings. It is a great article, one of my best.. anyway here's what happened.

I belong to over 200 Facebook groups in this very category and I also belong to about 200 Google plus communities also in the same category. So, I made a post promoting my new article and published it at all of these groups from both Facebook and Google.

The effects of these postings is what is the interesting bit....

So far, after about 2 and half days after the postings, my new article has received over 300 new Facebook likes and several FB shares... sweet, great stuff.
... but guess what happened at Google plus? ... well, nothing did, absolutely nothing. Not one plus one, not one share, not one mention or anything, nothing, squat... .. geeeez man, that sucks.

I think that is is quite interesting, don't you? What am amazing difference.

Yeah, I really like the Google+ platform as far as the design goes. Too bad it didn't come out about 10+ years ago.

Google+ seems to be a mostly dead platform. Yeah, there are a lot of posts of funny stuff, but otherwise...

Facebook is by far more active and engaging.

I personally would say that you can not treat the 2 ( Facebook and G+ ) the same. Just as you have posted all things being equal same amount of groups Same amount of communities and Facebook got all of this positive response. You could do that all day every day.. and get the same result over and over.

Here is a question for you.. how many friends do you have on Facebook? how many people do you have in your G+ Circles? More importantly with G+ how many influencers in the G+ Communities you post to, do you have in your Circles?

Facebook is all about drive-by Social Marketing. that is specifically what it is designed to do. You get updates when there are new comments in the Groups correct? do you see the same with G+? the answer is no.

G+ is far more "Social" than Facebook. You have to get in and be part of these communities.. if you just drive-by post.. you'll get nothing. if you start interacting and responding within the Communities.. you will get the same in return.

To get benefit from G+ you have to put in the time.. you have to develop "Social" relationships.. you have to give and give before you take. I will tell you that from experience learning to develop G+ has made me a far stronger "Social" marketer all the way around, due to the need to learn HOW TO BE SOCIAL.. and not wonder why WIIFM is not happening.

Okay thanks that is a good answer... yes i have 5000 friends in my facebook profile and the majority of them are also in many of my groups. I have about 3000 people in my Google circles but probably no where near as many in the same communities as me.. so that would be one reason why I got no response... and also as you say, I have not spent any time in the google communities, most of them I only just joined... so I definitely haven't done the leg work there. I appreciate how all this matters and would probably change the situation if I were to take the time.. however to get absolutely zero feedback from the communities is still pretty surprising. I do know that the type of people in my circles fall into a wider niche which also covers the smaller niche of my article.. abd the article itself fits into the communities I posted to like a glove... so even without the time spent in the communities to get zero feedback is still pretty surprising.

  • It is not clear for me if you posted a link with a simple call to action or wrote a detailed post and added your article's link to it.

Most people on Facebook will like & share any post without even reading it at all. Just for fun. But what I've found is that people on G+ likes to read useful content and rarely gives the g+.
But you can track in your website statistics where the traffic is coming from, may be you have gotten some traffic from G+ without getting votes and shares.
In any case, on g+ people within your circles will respond better than within communities.

It's true that Facebook is where it's at.

It reminds me of the AOL days if you were around back then.

    But don't count Google out.

They are smart as heck, and I think they'll find out a way to make Google more engaging... If they feel like it's worth their time.

Same types of results I always see. People are very active on facebook and LIKE and share the stuff they love. But only very few people are active on G+ and they rarely share or like your stuff on G+.

I think that Facebook is more easy for b2p or p2p. Google+ suits awesome for team management or b2b. Google gives us more complicated management schema... And PLUS is younger and I do not really think that it is a rival for FB
