Search engines are proving more and more people are searching for terms such as "humor", "funny", "jokes".

We all know the power of video and how it is used on squeeze pages, websites, and online marketing in general. It is continually being proved that if can bring humor into your own videos, whether used for marketing purposes or not, you will stand a greater chance of increasing traffic and for those videos to be shared among viewers.


I love writing and the internet. In the niches within which I work, I have been very fortunate to achieve page 1 on Google within days BUT how do I continue to stay ahead of the competition?

My next step is to crack the video that will go viral and bring even more traffic to my sites.

A lot more traffic and for free.

YouTube can provide us with an excellent base for free traffic and as you can see from this example above it certainly doesn't need to be perfect.

    @JAIDEEP2959 I agree, the trick is finding the line between fun and informative, without ever directly selling to the viewer. Youtube should be used to get the viewers into your marketing funnel (meaning away from the social media sites and onto your own website).

    Interesting stuff. The hard part will be trying to make money from all those laughing freebie seekies and monetising the video. I guess some sort of mobile phone video offer could work though!

      I agree w/ this. I'm not to sure how good this traffic would be. Usually this type of viral video covers too broad of a market. There's always money to be made if the traffic is high enough, however you could probably do just as well with a non viral video that is more niche focused.

    I think it is more important to spread the content rather than just publishing the video. This is something you don't see every day and I must say you get the right keyword and boom the table is yours.

      Maybe it's me, but I have ended up being confused with this thread.

      The reason I am on page 1 of Google and in the top 3-5 positions for the niches in which I operate is due to SEO and using the "right" keywords.

      If I can attract more traffic through the use of humor particularly through the medium of video (which can be done for zero cost) for those chosen niches, and market the video in whichever means possible, I have happy (or happier) visitors visiting my sites.

      Is this a bad thing?

        There's a big difference though, between a viral video, and good seo. A viral video gets traffic via "word of mouth" - or friends telling friends, through email, blogs, facebook, etc. Once a video goes viral, the traffic from it becomes very untargeted. People are viewing it for the humor, and not because they've found it in search of something.

        But like you said, it is free traffic and you can't go wrong w/ free traffic. I just wouldn't expect it to convert as good as a well seo'd video. I have a couple of humorous videos on youtube that are over 500k w/ viral traffic, and they just don't convert well, except w/ CPA opt ins. And most of those don't pay well.

        I could be completely wrong however. I just may have not hit on a good formula yet.

    The video now has over 8 million views... If they had a donate button I would have given a measly $1... Something for everyone to think about

    Hi Andrew,

    I discovered that Google loves back links to YouTube. And using funny videos will only improve the amount of traffic to your site, you are absolutely right.

    You can find many sites today with YouTube video from other people on it and just transcript of that video. They claim it is not braking copyrights as they have back link to original YouTube video.

    But I always prefer original content and doesn't matter if it is video or text.

      Not sure how many of you noticed, but there's the Amazon Mp3/iTunes Store links right below for the direct download purchase links for the song (or in the song depending on which view you are), so someone's probably doing alright off it

      It really is a great video...hits the emotions of millions of people in so many ways.

    Lots of users are using youtube and posting videos just for the sake of it and they get like you said thousands if not millions of views.

    Why not contact some owners of the videos and ask to put your URL add at end of video for small fee and offer them some kickbacks could work out for you and the video owner.

    You are very wrong. This video isn't just popular because people are searching for funny stuff. This video was on Good Morning America, possibly the most viewed morning news show in America. Then it blew up even more because of that show.

    I think to monetize these types of humor videos you need to interact with your user by trying out CPA offers (one field) that could relate to the actual content.

    There are thousands of different email/zip submit offers in lots of categories, so it's a good way to try and monetize that traffic.

      Wedding photog .... video .... cakes .... dresses ... venues and catering ...

      Guess where I went when I was my lil brother s best man and needed ideas for a good speech? Google. Would I have paid $27 bux for a KILLER speech from an accomplished writer who could articulate more eloquently my thoughts and ideas ... easily owuld have paid $47 or $67 ... yeah - likely.

    I made a nice quick lump sum of money a few yrs back using Youtube and motorcross jumping vids of my buddies doing stunts...sold a ton of moto-cross gear with it. Had about 200,000+ views also...it works, believe me.

      I posted this thread 4 days ago and according to John it has now hit 11 million - averaging another 1 million hits a day.

      I had two objectives in mind when I posted the info - to make people smile, laugh or even cheer them up, mission accomplished.

      The second was to highlight that not just using video as a marketing tool (the whole world and their auntie will tell you that) but to show the potential power of using humor to attract visitors in their droves.

      Mission accomplished - I am not sure!!!

      However, I will ask this one question - why are there so many tv programs worldwide achieving huge ratings by doing nothing more than showing humorous video clips?

      Yes, I fully understand that the whole exercise would be wasteful if the effort expended did not result in sales. Would you blame the video for that if it brought you millions of visitors or how you marketed your product to those visitors?
