Need a KICK in the right direction!

Hey all!

I'm Stuart, firstly I'd like to say hello

I'm a full-time junior web designer (and *insert generic opening liner - I've had an account for a little while, this is my first thread and I'm a newbie, I want to quit my job etc*) and I could use some help with getting a kick in the right direction in the Internet Marketing world.

My only previous experience was on eBay, I made around £100/£150 total selling some game download codes.
I always knew you could get money from working online but it was great being on the other end where I actually got money from it!
(Bonus being the stock/codes were free which was great. It was all digital so there no shipping costs and the buyers got there code whenever I received payment in my PayPal and had time to send the email with their code. I'd probably have kept doing something like that if I could keep getting stock.)

From that, what I have been trying to find in my spare time is a good affiliate product to promote which I can't seem to find, or research a ton then make and sell my own product. Except I'm either pretty fussy with what I'd like to promote and/or can't find a specific niche that I'd enjoy.

So one idea would be to be a Buyer and Seller of products, I'd probably get some wholesale items to sell. But doing this would be pretty hard if I have a physical product considering I work 9 - 6 Monday to Friday which leaves little to no time to be able to dispatch anything during the week.

Pre-Edit: I could be wrong, but by going back on all this, it's selling for me that seems to be the simple part, it's finding a a product to sell which is the hard part haha

I was thinking that I want to start my own store (similar to Amazon and Millets I suppose) selling mainly Travel, Outdoors and maybe some Sports products. Becoming an Amazon Associate myself to sell these products seems like the easiest way to do this. The bonus being I don't have to do any of the dispatching, just set-up products, collect emails, create newsletters every X amount of days etc and repeat. The downside I guess is that I can't create any exciting deals, sales or promotions? And If Amazon doesn't sell a product or their site but I can do it with somebody else, wouldn't that then create an issue in the long run if they want to add it to their basket, or would those sort of things be better off as a one time deal via a newsletter?

For starting out, in your own opinion, what would be a good way for a newcomer like me to start?
E-Commerce with Amazon Associates, as an affiliate with somebody else, or with buying and selling on eBay/Amazon?

What I do have at the moment is a Tumblr blog with almost 1200 followers. Although the engagement rate isn't overly high. With roughly 3500 visitors (not unique) to my page over the couple years I've had this, and I added the visitors 'tracker' about a year after I started the blog. I sometimes post my own content, mostly it's just re-blogs of pictures I like.
I know a lot of mistakes I have on here, but I know roughly what I can do to solve them (I.E. I need an email opt-in, more of my own content, and a bunch of other stuff).
Would anyone recommend me to start a blog on another site (Maybe Wordpress), or stay with Tumblr and just improve it gradually?

I guess what would be awesome to have is a mentor to show me the ropes or to talk to (I know some people do this but usually charge), but even just a "Here's a link to this great, recommended book/website/guide to walkthrough the basics" would be cool.

There's so much information out there I guess I'm just lost, so any help would be useful (:

Thanks in Advance

In other news If anyone would like to collaborate just let me know, I know basic web design with HTML and CSS, but mainly focus on art/illustration, graphic and logo design. But I am looking more for entrepreneurial stuff as opposed to Fiverr gigs as I have seen mentioned about on this site.

I would suggest a few things.

    1. Get rid of some of those bright coloured writing sections. They aggravate the eyes and put people off reading what you have written.

    2. Don't commit to anything right now.

    3. Spend some time browsing and reading various sections in this forum. I don't mean skimming, I mean READING. This will give you some tangible ideas and then perhaps you can make a decision.

    4. A decision...not multiples. I say this because if you choose to split your focus, especially as a newbie, you won't put 100% effort into any one thing.

This forum is a goldmine of information. Read and use it wisely and you may just work out what will help you.

Updated the text. It seemed like a good idea to highlight the questions when I first wrote it, but now looking back at it you're definitely right.

I think that's my problem. There's so much information, and I get so many ideas but nothing seems to stick. I'm looking towards the Travel and Outdoors market because that's something I'd enjoy (But saying that knowing me I'll end up choosing something completely different to start off..). I think it's then trying to niche that down further to get a more specific audience, then researching and working on where to go from there.

It does look better with less colours. As I said, I recommend reading threads in here. take your time, maybe even make notes or save interesting threads. Then maybe you'll get a more concrete answer on what you should do. All worthwhile things take time.
