What To Do with 30k Email List?

Since around 2011 I've collected around 30k email addresses via registrations through my mobile app which is hyper focused on the Movie/Entertainment niche. In my terms I was sure to include verbiage that I could use their email address for marketing purposes. Recently I joined the FBstart program and received a 6 month trial of mailchimp. After importing my list I sent out a few emails promoting "MoviePass" affiliate program ($20 CPA for two week free trial) and received tepid results... 2 conversions out of 30k sent.

What should I be marketing to these people? Is 30k enough to make any sort of income? I'm not new to this but this is my first shot at "email marketing" . Thanks for your advice!

  • I personally don't have experience with the Movie/Entertainment niche but you could definitely make money off a 30k list. I'm no sure what you could promote it seems a little limited? Good luck though, you can make good money off that 30k just need the right product. I'm sure you will find something.

Edit: what about something like this? Found it on Clickbank, $24 per sale.

what % opened the email? the list is 4 years old, most people have probably no idea who you are, and probably junk your mail right away

There's money in that list, you just have to know how to optimize it.

You should not have sent out a 30k blast, especially since you're inexperienced. I would have broken it down into 500 or 1000 subscribers each and worked on getting your open and click through rate higher. What percentage of opens and clicks did you have?

Change small aspects of the email on each send, or higher a copywriter to help you out. That way you don't blow your lists' trust on the first send.

First off, email to them whatever you are offering. By that you would also know which ones are still working and which ones no longer work. I collected a list of emails in 2013 and when I emailed them back again in 2014/2015, some no longer work. I did get a lot of delivery email failures. So, by using them again, you can update the list. With what to email them, what are you offering anyway? Provide info on that, something that's interesting.

Funny how people never read the story just look for the the big words
the list has been going since 2011 ,

I would suggest you email some revives of some movies out and engage the list again , think of it starting from scratch that way you should se some traction soon.

You always want to start off with updates prior to offers so that 1. you don't look like spam, and 2. you warm up your list. I have a couple of Wordpress plugins and I rarely mail my list. When I do I usually send an email updating them on the latest things that have been updated to the plugin. I also offer something free like a webinar showing the new strategies involved in the product or something, then I pitch an offer via email.

If you have a friend you knew but hadn't talk to for 4 years who out of the blue came to you with a business proposition, how would you feel? You'd probably feel crappy and say no.

the list is 4 years old (that's when it began). true or false?
in 4 years, how many people change their email addresses?
in 4 years, how many people's emails get cluttered with so much bullshit that they will never even see your email?
how many people will even open email from someone they dont know?

the more time you are inactive with your list, the less chance that your old subscriber will respond to you. which is why my question was, what % opened the email that he sent recently?

and yeah, i agree with you, it is funny how you dont read and just look for the big words
