Some Other Questions Regarding Blogging

Hello everyone,

My blog is finally registering visits on Google Analytics and the numbers are looking pretty good for a brand new blog.

Furthermore, Google Webmasters just indexed 8 of my 21 posts on the search engine.

My bounce rate is 20% and average session time is 9 minutes.

Now, more specific details can be tackled.

Here are some questions regarding the format as well as expectations for writing blogs:

1, There is a Hello Bar I put on top of my blog to build an email list. For those who did that, what is approximately the number of subscribers compared to the viewers? What is the ratio subscriber: viewer I should expect?

2, My blog currently has a very basic template basically with one very long scrollable page, with all the blog posts on the same page. Is there any other template/theme I can download for free that you can recommend?

3, I plan to monetize my blog at some point, probably in 12 months. What is a decent strategy you guys have worked out over the past? I do not want to get Adsense, because the Adsense account is quite... volatile. Google can basically shut it down at any time, for any reason.

Thank you!

A 20% bounce rate and 9 minutes on site is excellent, but I have a feeling that you are personally skewing those stats fairly heavily. For example, if you spend an hour writing a post and five other visitors come to read that post, that's 6 viewers for 64 minutes total, or about 10:15 each. So expect your bounce to go up and your time on site to drop....because those numbers are almost too good.

For your opt-in rate, anyone here would be guessing if they gave you a number. Very specific niches can have 30-50% opt in rates regularly while others are doing well at 5%. So only time will tell....just test and improve.

For a new template, just Google "free responsive wordpress template." Then just pick one you like and install it.

For the monetization strategy, this is the same as the opt-in rate question- nobody here can answer that because we're not your ideal visitors. Find products/items that your users are already buying and you'll do well...but what that is, I can't tell you. Your niche decides that part.

    I hope that helps.

I agree with kk05. I do have one question, though. Why do you plan on waiting so long before you begin to monetize your blog? I'm not a fan of adsense. either. I think that it pays too cheaply, generally speaking. However, it really depends on your niche and the products in it.

I think a good, free theme is 2012. I use it on a few of my blogs and it was also recommended to me by a few different sources.
As far as monetizing I am also wondering why you would wait so long. I say, as soon as you start seeing steady traffic then think about monetizing. How you monetize really depends on your niche and what types of products your visitors would be apt to buy.
