Anyone ever tried paid forum advertising?

Is this something that is done?

Instead of posting on a forum myself thousands of times and building up a reputation, has anyone ever tried paying an established forum member per month for them to put your link in their sig?

Most of these guys are not business oriented and will usually take very low pay ($50 a month) and just go about their posting habits as usual. Seems a good deal to me if the website gets a lot of traffic and they are well known posters and people trust them.

A very nice strategy. On the other hand I tried advertising in digital point forum for some 25 bucks. Very low clicks.

But your strategy seems to work. I also saw some marketplace for sig advertisement. Maybe you will get it in Google.

Thats very interesting. I think I will try it out for a month and see how it goes. If I even get one sale in a month it would be a profit over what I plan to pay the guy(s) who will promote it.

The only problem with this is that forums usually generate a very low amount of clicks on links in signatures. Plus the topics you are posting in now are not the topics that will be seen in the future. I is difficult for the forum to generate the same information on one link. The link will eventually get buried over time.

That's a nice thinking outside-the-box attitude. Keep it up. Not sure how profitable it would be though. You'd have to find a way to solidify a lot of variables on both sides. For example,

      • Would you require a minimum amount of post per month?
      • Would the poster have to post in certain sections or any section?
      • Would the forum allow it?
      • Would the quality of his post go down (or his rep.) because he's straining to get his post quota?
      • Would quality of post even be a factor and how would you judge it?
      • Are you willing to assume the (scammer) risk of the person you sell your sig. to?
It could probably work for "some" people if you could clear issues like the above up.

Hmm. Interesting. I guess I would have set some rules for any person willing to make this agreement with me.

Anyone who will sell their sig. is not someone I would want promoting my site.

On this forum it's against the rules as you can't link to a site you don't own or control the content on.

Seems a good deal to me if the website gets a lot of traffic and they are well known posters and people trust them.
