Google verified?

Quick question....How important is it that you get your website verified with Google?

Does verifying really increase traffic? Does not verifying keep you from getting traffic?

I am really having a problem getting my site site verified with Google because I can't get the meta tag they want installed in the right place.

So is this really necessary or will I be fine without it?

    It's only important if you use Google's Webmaster Tools. You won't be able to see some statistics without being verified.

    The meta tag goes in the "head" section of the page before this tag "</head>". If your pages are cached, clear your site's cache after making the change.

    I've always found it eaiser to just upload the file though.
