Does SEO related work enough to earn $500 plus in a month?????

Actually it depends on the type of clients and your work. If you will target the customers who are looking for seo at very low cost then you have to do more work for lesser money. But If you will find high paying customers then its good for you. So act like a professional and attract high paying customers.

To be successful on oDesk/ now Upwork.com, and like in any other business, you need to stand out from all the other people offering the same product or service. When I first started online, I built a business very quickly on freelancer sights (and I hired a team to do most of the work)

So, I hate to say it, but if you couldn't make it happen on oDesk, what makes you think you will be more successful on another freelancer site?

I would also recommend you try creating a 'package' deal for your proposals, and offering an ongoing monthly fee.. but offer a deal (ie: 50% for month).

But before anything, your account needs to be polished, your proposals need to well written and don't just send canned proposals to each potential client, take some time a little time and write something directly related to them or their business, it will get you more attention at least.

I'm sorry, my friend, but there's nothing easy about it. There is massive competition in the freelance industry and getting your website to the first page of Google is merely the start. For you to be successful, you'll have to write great proposals, always over-deliver and make your clients feel like family. You'll also have to have extensive knowledge of online marketing so there is a ton of stuff for you to learn.

To answer your question though, there is definitely enough work out there to clear $500 a month. I often clear $500 a day with my clients, but it also took me a long time to get to where I am now. So if you're ready to put in the hard work then go for it...but forget about it being easy.

i dont think looking for easy way should be you focus, nothing good comes easy all those places that did not work for you are working for people willing to put in the hard work needed to make it work, if you offer services that are essential and irresistible you can make even more than $500 with just one or two clients.

If it was that easy then all of us would be working it and making a lot of money and wouldn't even bother commenting on forums. So be prepared to work your hat off until you find a perfect client. Keep in mind that it's not always about what you look for, it's about what you can offer.

Stick to odesk and pph, and be persistent.
Just build a portfolio and, as I said, be persistent.

If your seo skills are up to par and you can offer real value you should already know the answer to this.

If seo isn't your speciality you would be much better off offering skills that you are AMAZING at.

If I were you and I had my heart set on Seo.

I would Contact local business who clearly needed my services and offer my service for FREE to gain working experience as well as quality testimonials.

I would continue to do this until I felt confident to approach businesses with a plan of action and proposal. At this point I wouldn't work cheap as I've proved my worth by obtaining TRACKABLE results.

Build a portfolio. Help people achieve what you say you will do. The money will follow.

If you have experience with SEO, how about you use your skills to build niche specific sites, offering free (but good value) info products, so you can build a list, and then market affiliate offers to that list?

That can definitely bring in $500+ per month if you work hard at it.

Forget about being ranked on Google...

It's very unstable, you are very dependant on Google (assuming you optimize mainly for Google) and it's a lot of labour for results that don't stick.

By all means, you can include SEO in your overall website optimization efforts, but Google's traffic comes and goes, so if you are going to 100% rely on it, then your business will fail badly.

Instead look into alternative traffic sources and think how to become less dependant on organic traffic...Think social, guest blog posting, forums, etc.
