Maybe "The End of Affiliate Marketing Being Done a Certain Way by Some People" would be more accurate.

Sorry, but affiliate marketing isn't going anywhere, any time soon.

Sure, the Google slap may have a negative impact on some - but only those who rely on it almost exclusively.

There are still other ways to market affiliate products.

As long as publishers are willing to pay commissions, there will be people figuring out how to earn those commissions.

Plus, the post isn't that grim at all. Instead it offers practical advice on what to do.

    All the best,
    Michael

It's actually a good thign for most people in the affiliate business..

It is moving people in new directions that they hadn't thought about before. Most affiliates who are using Pay Per Click on a daily basis will be operating without the need to feel this "slap"...

With the amount of money I invest in Adwords and paid advertising each week, I'd be foolish to INSTANTLY give that traffic to the product merchant.

Using list building strategies and low end products you can feed your paid advertising traffic into your sales funnel and then sell them on the back-end on mutiple occasions.

This opens the door for cross-selling, up-selling and ....well.. any kind of selling if you play it right...

Nobody HAS to promote affiliate products directly from the pages that PPC traffic lands on ...

You just need to garner the trust right there, it's a longer game than selling right on the landing pages.. but it's a whole lot more profit, come conversions time.

A 20 page minisite can be VERY well optimised to fit in with Google quality score (I do this every day), promoting $3 and $4 products easily pumps a list full of hungry buyers into a funnel that can be sold down the line with higher level affiliate products..

Cancelling this small investment of cash in a stable business is, dare I say it, easy to do when you structure your back end effectively.

Some of us have been doing this for years...so the slap is almost meaningless.. aside from a few shoddily run campaigns that I should have tweaked a long time ago. It got me to fix those and increase profit in the long run.

    Peace

Google Adwords isn't the only source of traffic.

That's another thing I love about conducting business on the net.

I think everything will work out. Start using a little more longtail SEO and a little less PPC, and youre in good shape.

I understand your concern but this is far from the end for Affiliate Marketing. I agree with mozzie above...

I think people make the mistake of jumping in with Pay-per-click when there are actually much easier ways to generate traffic and in some cases without spending a fortune. Having said that, if you're short for time PPC is probably the way to go.

I can't really comment extensively on this "Google Slap." All I know is that they're cracking down on Affiliate Marketer's big style and many are gonna be affected. Personally, I don't use PPC at all but I don't think it's very fair the way Google is dealing with these things.

    Just my opinion

Sorry, but who cares about Adwords. Just build sites with trust and you'll be successful through the search engines.

    Jeez.....

Some of us have been around long enough to hear "the end of....", or "the death of...." just about everything by now.

The plain reality is that the internet is maturing. And it will continue to mature for decades to come.

The bottom line is that, despite all the doom and gloom you may hear online, we're still in the very early days of all this.

As with any entity, change comes fast and furious in the early days, followed by a maturation process where change still comes, but it becomes less frequent, and it is balanced by an increased ability to adapt.

The methods used for effective, profitable affiliate marketing may shift and change as time goes by, but smart, dedicated people will always quickly figure out new ways to continue their old income sources.

Acceptance and adaptation will be the two vital traits any marketer MUST have online as the years go by.

Great post - thanks for pointing me to it.

I was just working on affiliate link wrapper plugin for Wordpress.

I'll add little "black hat" [x] checkbox option to it - double cloaking to make all content immune to Google Slap.

Just tested it - works like a charm... Without this post - I wouldn't have a clue about dangers.... Thanks much for posting!
