Links page in Wordpress blog - worth it or not?

I'm trying to build backlinks to my site (which uses Wordpress) from similar sites in my niche. Most of the sites I'm looking at are asking for reciprocal links.

I'm still fairly new to Wordpress so can anyone help me with a couple of questions?

- Is reciprocal linking worth doing at all? Could it actually harm my rankings?
- If it's worth doing, then what's the best way of doing it in Wordpress? Should I create a 'Links' page? Or is there a better way of doing it?

Building links is always good, nothing to say against reciprocal. Build a new category for your "buddy" links.

In 99% of all circumstances, more links are better.

Some links have higher value than others. Reciprocal links have less value than one-way... but a Reciprocal link on a PR4 page is worth more than a one-way link on a PR0 page.

Make sure you don't call you page: "Links", "Bookmarks" or "Link Partners"

Instead us something like "Helpful Sites", "Recommended Resources", "Helpful Resources" etc

Google doesn't like "Link Pages" very much.

        Cheers for the replies.

I didn't think about creating a category to hold the links. Interesting idea. Would there be any advantages of doing this over a simple outgoing links page?

The only way links aren't good in google is if they are affiliate links. In which case you don't really want to post them all over your site.

But as for building your links, it normally always works out for the better. If you are worried about your website looking to crowded, you can give yourself a limit of putting up to many.
