Looking for Demographic Info as Needed

Hi All - I have had a difficult time finding good, reliable and accessible sources of demographic information for determining my online strategies. For example, what are the demographics of each social media site? If a particular site appealed to those 18 to 25, what products would they likely buy online? What would they not buy? What demographic groups would be the best to target, for what and where would you target them? From my experience in brick and mortar retail, companies would sort through considerable demographic info before deciding to build a store or enter a specific market. Googling for demographic info generally doesn't get me very far and trail and error hasn't done well either. This is particularly true where I get decent traffic daily but few sales.
Your suggestions are respectfully appreciated. TY Bill

For general social media sites - (Facebook, Twitter) - you have all kinds of people using the site. This is why you have so many niches advertising on Facebook. Their demographics are truly far and wide.

As far as demographics for other types of sites, look at their media kit in the "Advertise Here" section. The media kit always has demographic information about a site.

You could use Quantcast to help you understand what sites 18 -25 year olds are visiting. You could also use Comscore, but that is paid.
