It appears that you chose a niche, and now you're looking to build a following and what not -- without having done the necessary research. You should of actually started out by finding a profitable niche market (some more profitable than others) or a product in a profitable niche. Then, you should of started promoting products and writing content based upon what people are looking for in the search engines and what not.

Doing this (and some basic search engine optimization stuff) will allow you to naturally generate traffic to your blog. Then, you can start building a list. When you do it the way you did (a mistake that many of us make when starting out - you're not alone), you're stuck trying to find people in a niche where there may not be that many to begin with.

Maybe you can find some short-story forums or something like that. I'm not sure. Is that even a niche? Maybe you should consider starting over. Do you know what a niche is? A niche is a group of people that have some kind of problem and are willing to pay for a solution. Magazines are broken up into niches. If you were to go to a newsstand or the grocery store, which magazines would you pick up? You could also use a site like Amazon for this.

Does your blog fit into one of those categories? If it doesn't, you might want to start a new one. I hope this is making some sense -- even though I'm kind of all over the place today.

    1. Read your competitors blogs, interact and leave comments there.
    2. Participate in forums
    3. Writing blog posts keeping target keywords in mind, so you will naturally attract search engine traffic.

However, as Joey said above, the topic of your blog is really confusing and if you're planning to monetize in the future, then you should really do market research and identify your audience, plus whether you can sell them anything.

Some good tips listed in this thread already.. keep getting more content added..even if it means making blog posts like "ten tips to..." or "why you need to.."...etc. Get lots of good blog posts up there and you'll get more SE traffic. You could also get started with some social media promotion. Setup a facebook page, twitter, maybe create a few youtube videos...etc.

More content, and create the content with your target audience in mind. If you don't have a target audience, research competitor sites with quantcast and see what their audience is.

You could try doing some guest blogging on other sites. Your posts there would have links back to your site.

You say that you want "readers." I'm assuming you're not looking for buyers, but are just trying to establish your authority in your field.

If that's the case, then you need to find where your targeted readers are. Check FB groups, G+ communities, etc. Find where your crowd hangs out and start joining in conversations with them. Forums are good too, as someone above already mentioned.
