Someone kidnaps you and drags you to a deserted building....

They lock you in a room with just a computer and a internet connection and say -

"You have a week to make me $1000 online. If you fail I will kill you."

What do you do? What strategies do you employ?

I think this could be a very interesting game...

would go to site like odesk, kijiji, craiglist and help some peoples by building website for them, doing seo or fixing their stuff but they would really have to put a gun on my head as i have no passions for that. I just start a online store in a niche that i'm passionate about, will take month but i have more money than i need so no rush here

No need to be so insulting man. Its just a interesting concept I wanted to test out. As in, if your life came down to it what method of earning online would you trust the most.

It's not interesting it's Booooooooring. If you had taken the time to search the forum you would have noticed that these "What if" scenarios have been done to death....

        Sorry....

Just duplicate that to make their target and your kidnapper should be happy.

Just to note... That is what I would do in the limited time frame. However, if they gave me a larger time frame I'd use someone of my own methods that take a little longer to get going but pay off big in the long run

Why do you need a gun to your head to make money online?

The implication is that there is some different set of ethics that would govern this scenario, opening up all of the secret methods that you would be too pure to consider without the gun.

It is a useless exercise. The answer is pretty much the same for everyone - an online scam or a bullet to the head.

Why not take this energy and focus it on developing your strengths and interests?

Exactly! We know the concept and goal the OP has in mind with this scenario but it needs more detail.

Here's a better variation: A small group capture you and lock you in a room with a computer and the proverbial gun to your head and tell you "teach us to make $1000.00 online within a month!" (a week would be kinda harsh and not realistic for most people)

Good point. If I had a gun to my head, I would use ANY tactic, including spamming, scamming and other *unsavory* methods. Sorry, but me scamming someone out of, say, $47 in order to save my life is a no-brainer...

      But I digress

Of course, because once you get out you could pay them back, explain the situation etc.

Interesting concept? Go find a deserted building, lock yourself in and get to work if you want to "test the concept". You've started numerous threads in the 6 weeks since joining the WF - and many of them seem to be part of "the game"....

-people who get rich off IM tend to mention having mentors

            -who is making a living

-how hard is it to make a profit, and how long did it take to reach that point

-why do people say it takes a long time to make any money doing AM

-PPL is a much easier way to make money than selling affiliate products
            ...and now you've been kidnapped???

No worries, this is a learning moment.

You misread the market, and it responded.

How you react to an experience like this defines what kind of person (or marketer) you can become.

Don't feel bad. Seriously. I expect if I jumped on a forum about an unfamiliar subject - big game hunting, for instance - I dare say I'd irk the odd member by asking common questions. If I were in your shoes? Big deal if some people don't like it. *blows raspberries*

Are you serious? It is that easy for you? Really?

As the late, great Carl Sagan said... extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Before you spout advice like this to desperate, impressionable young marketers, you should be willing and able to show (and prove) how this extraordinary claim is not total BS.

This is no different than saying if I really focus, take a deep breath and believe in myself, then I can fly.

Mystery solved! If you're in trouble, OP, just let us know. If they're watching, just let us know in code: The pink elephant walks silently like the banana. Plop that into a hefty paragraph, and hope they don't notice!!

I think we all may have missed the point - this could be a sophisticated filtering exercise. Anyone who accepts the OP's scenario would be putting their trust implicitly in a psychopathic stranger who's willing to murder them on some arbitrary premise.

Respond to it, and you'd be likely to swallow any old scam.

    Foreverstray,

    Two observations . . .

First, it's usually a good idea to use the search function in the forum prior to starting a thread. Yes, I know, the searches don't always give you what you want. But very often new people coming to the forum don't bother to check to see if their exact question is already answered in a thread, or two, or a hundred.

Second, and this is of course my own opinion, trying to make $1,000 in a week starting from scratch is very difficult and probably counter-productive to launching a real business. Normally, a sound business startup strategy would not include the kind of business execution and steps that would give you that type of return in a week. I personally would do things very differently for the $1,000 in a week than I would do if I wanted to create a long term business. The latter might not give me any income for a month or more.

So while I don't fault your intentions for starting this thread, I think for most people they would be far better off beginning with a more realistic long term view and plan for their new business.

I understand why someone may post something like this. Most of the time it seems that these scenarios or asking for their "friends" or whatever are code speak for they themselves are desperate for answers and not sure how to get themselves out of the hole they are in. The poster needs help and is hoping and praying that there is some secret system or some answer that will make their problems go away.

In another thread you posted this:

There are systems that can get you earning money immediately after you set them up, but it usually takes months of failure and learning for a person to be able to utilize them effectively.

So yes, there are ways to start making money as soon as tonight, but you will never get there if you just keep looking for "pre-built" systems. You need to try a lot of things and fail before you get to the point you want to get to.
That is true whether a gun is held to our head or not. There may be shortcuts or short term successes but for true and long lasting success, it just isn't going to happen overnight.

For example, people can make money with a blog but it would be extremely difficult to make any money the first week without advertising money, a bunch of content already written, way to monetize the blog, etc. already in place. If everything was in place and if there was already content and traffic and friends and all those things, then maybe yes it could be done in a week.

This thread has a lot of ideas about how to make money quickly. It may be worth a look.

Many of those ideas, though, require money up front for things like advertising, or special skills like the ability to quickly write nice articles.

What it will come down to, though, is that you'll be locked in that deserted building writing articles - one at a time or posts for your blog or on FB trying to get people to see your page or on the forum trying to build relationships or optimizing a page for SEO or figuring out a hook for your next email blast. Nothing push button. Nothing fancy. Nothing sexy. Nothing secret. Just working your tail off doing what is already talked about openly here all day long every day - the boring stuff everybody supposedly already knows.

    Mark
