Do You Find This Godaddy Practice Annoying?

When Godaddy calls you at home especially when there is no discernible reason for it?

I consider Godaddy to be equivalent to a hooker, though I admit this probably isn’t the most appropriate comparison. But I provide them with money in exchange for services and would prefer to keep them at arms length and not have them phoning when there really isn’t any emergency. I renew expiring domains or plan to (if I wish to keep them) so really don’t get the whole “we’ll call you for no apparent reason and raise a bunch of questions about what you are up to online even though it’s completely unnecessary.”

I have asked them not to call as I do receive promotional e-mails from them, but apparently this hasn’t been heeded and sometimes they call “just because” not offering any sort of deals/discounts or there being any particular reason for their call. It’s gotten to the point that I seriously considered taking my business elsewhere over it. Some people might think me mad or that I’m overreacting, but I have seriously felt violated and like personal/professional lines were breached.

Actually, you can set your marketing preferences at GoDaddy.

My Account > Visit My Account > Settings > Contact Preferences

Although you can select that you don’t wish to receive phone calls, this isn’t heeded 100% of the time. Imagine a telemarketer calling you with nothing to sell, they are calling on behalf of a company whose services you already receive and the supposed “purpose” of their call is to more or less remind you of something you are already well aware of. In other words it’s more or less a completely needless and unnecessary call, much like how sending fliers and promotional materials to existing customers informing them of how much new customers will be saving by signing up for your services now.

They never called me so that is a good thing.

They do send emails when a domain name of mines has to be renewed.

You see their '480' AZ number on your caller ID just ignore it. I wish GD was the only B to B calls I receive.

I have a google voice mail set up on one of my "junk" email accounts and have it set to go straight to voicemail. I give that phone number out. If they call they have no choice but to leave a voice mail.

I did this because about a year ago I was shopping around for insurance and tried an online web site that would get you several quotes. It turned into a game of seeing how many times they called, because you can see the number called in GV even after I blocked their number.

    Phone rings
    You: Hello
    Godaddy: silent
    You: I said hello
    Godaddy: silent
    You: What do you want
Godaddy: we are calling for no apparent reason

Come on, what ever your reason or agenda may be, tell it to someone else.

I've never had Godaddy call me at home but I have had them renew domains and whois guards that I definitely did not have set to auto-renew. If you use those guys you really have to keep an eye on them.

I bought my first domains through GoDaddy back in the late '90s.

I know everyone likes to moan and complain about them . . .

But they have never called me, have given me good customer service when I've contact them, and with their promo codes they are the least expensive registrar that I have found.

Their purchase system can seem like it's cumbersome with all the upsells, but I have learned to quickly navigate through that mire.

      No complaints here.

Their customer service is second to none, but the problem is if you monitor your domains which most people do, you are already aware of the expiration dates. On top of this they e-mail you reminders multiple times. Calling you on top of this feels needless and borderline insulting. It implies that your memory is poor and you can’t keep track of your domain expiration dates.

Not only do I not find it annoying I find it to be part of
the best customer service I've ever experienced from
    any company.

I've received many calls from them. Sometimes it's just
to check in and make sure I'm having a good experience
with their products and services. Other times they will
work in a short pitch for another product/service. I don't
mind that at all becasue... you know... I'm a professional
marketing guy, and all... so it's no big deal.

Next time they call pay attention... you have the opportunity
to learn something about excellent customer service.

The only call I ever had from them for the over 10 years I've been with
them was someone had complained about one of my domain names.
Apparently a trademark issue, but I had already let that name expire
so that was the end of that story. It was strange that they call because
they could see that I never renewed the domain name.

Oh yeah I use GoDaddy for a lot of my domain hoarding and they call me all the time. I eventually told them that I'm legitimately never going to use their services for other than domain purchases, and then I received a bunch of fantastic offer codes... so it went a little differently for me but still ;-)

I did change the marketing preferences a while ago. I also spoke to someone live who called here to remind me of an expiring domain that I had already taken care of about no longer wishing to be called. Even giving an explanation about my preference for separation between my personal and professional life, and my feeling violated when someone from my professional life reaches into my personal life. He said he’d “make a note of it.” and I received a few more calls after that which I ignored.

This is pretty annoying, but I think Godaddy has improved a lot comparing to before, base on the real testing stats. Look like it is because they had changed management.

The best is when you have adult domains and you get the awkward call about them expiring.

Because user crunchor is on some kick to prove he is some kind of hosting expert and posting junk everywhere especially regarding how evil EIG hosting is instead of spending time on his ailing jewelry site.

I find anything GoDaddy annoying. Anything.

But I stopped doing business with them and moved everything out of their reach many many years ago, so maybe they are better now. I don't know and I don't care, but if they are anything as I remember them, I just can't understand why people keep giving them money. Even if there weren't cheaper alternatives, it's still worth taking business elsewhere. For me anyway.

I moved out of Godaddy many years ago as well. I can tell Godaddy is doing way better than before by looking at real life testing stats, very likely because they have changed CEO in 2013. I wouldn't try it anyway, because there are other better choices out there even they have improved.
