Default Paypal recurring payments for membership site

we have a membership site setup with paypal as a payment processor.
when someone pays with their credit card for the recurring payment, they are asked to setup a paypal account, i am wondering if there is a way around it as we have people signing up at the seminars by giving us their cc details.

paypal does not allow you to create accounts for others.

so, how can we go about this? should be switch to another system for payment processing?

any advice is appreciated

PayPal requires all recurring billing (subscriptions) to have an account with them. If the customer doesn't have an account already then they are provided with the information to create one.

If you want to manually set up recurring billing you will need your own merchant account I believe.

Others who have had success or failure with PayPal as a payment processor for membership sites should chime in here, but....

I've read where some site owner would never use PayPal again. Not because it doesn't work or that it isn't an acceptable form for payment, but that subscribers can easily cancel without notice. The drop out rate is much higher.

Personally I like the power of being able to cancel at will, but it a bit too easy for someone to cancel for a membership site owner.

Yes, I suggest you to use Merchant Account if you want your payors to pay you via PayPal.

Yes. I also think Merchant Account is the best method to accept cc.
