How to get a PO Box address?

Hello,

Could you guys shed some light on this matter.

I live outside the US and would like to get a US-based Post Office (PO) Box address that I can use for sending emails to my list (it's required by the CAN-SPAM Act and thus by the email service provides such as Aweber, Getresponse and the like).

So I've heard about the possibility of getting a PO Box address that would forward the mail to my real address in my country. But I just don't know the "insider" stuff so I'm asking you - if anyone is using such a service - please share your experience with the different companies that offer it.

Thanks!

Go to the post office where you want to go to pick up your PO Box mail. (They don't deliver box mail to your home, you have to go and get it.) If they have any boxes available, you have to fill out a form listing your street address and some other information, and pay up front for 6 months or a year. A small box is probably about $25 for 6 months, may be more or less depending on the post office. Larger boxes are of course more expensive. Once you have a box, you can renew it for 6 months or a year at a time, seemingly forever.

I think there are some virtual mail services, where you would get something like a po box, then they scan the mail and email it to you.

      Kinda interesting idea.

here's a link i found for a company that does this: www earthclassmail .com

You can't get a US PO Box if you're not in the US. As others have posted there are services where they provide you a US address for your business but it's more expensive. My brother in Costa Rica uses one. He gets an address in Miami, FL. Any mail sent there is forwarded to him in Costa Rica.

He pay's a monthly fee plus he has to pay for the mail received based on weight. Here is the one he uses. Not sure if your country is included or not:

If you're in the E.U. then the provisions of CAN-SPAM are not what you should be concerned about. You should be looking at how the E.U.'s Directive on Privacy & Electronic Communications was/is implemented in whatever E.U. member state you live in. In other words, you have to do whatever your own national anti-spam laws say you have to do, not what U.S. law (or any other country's laws) says you should do.

That said, many of the provisions of U.S. and European anti-spam laws are very similar anyway, including, IIRC, the requirement for contact details.

Therefore, your solution seems pretty simple: if you don't plan to use your own address, go to your local post office and tell them you want to get a P.O. box.

      Tommy.

You may try to ask permission of one of your friends living in USA and use their PO Box Emauil address.
