Can anyone tell me what is the drawback for using a .org domain. Are there any?

Thanks

I agree. If I saw a site that was clearly commercial using the .org extension, I would view it as kinda unethical and would leave.

      Oh please.

Nobody cares what your extension is except that if people are typing it in you will lose a few to the .com version.

One of my most successful sites was a .org and the 60,000 people a month who visited it sure didn't seem to mind.

The only 'drawback' it has is that it's not a .com domain.

However, all the others have that same problem.

After .com I would take .org as that makes your site seem like an authority site.

I know as I run a .org site and my visitors honestly believe I'm some big-shot on the internet.

there is no drawback except what Rich Struck said that your site will loose a few to the .com version ... and nobody is gonna frown upon it, in fact for most people .org is usually the next choice after .com and .net

.org stands for organization which is mostly used for charity groups or local functions. If you have a single premium word in .org then you might have a gem.

Although .com will always reign as king of domains I see .Tel picking up some momentum.

You could lose type in traffic to the .com domain/ website.

For business use I would recommend a .com domain name, in some cases .net.These extensions are known by everyone.

I don't really think it's so big an issue. The only thing I can think of is psychological uneasiness (there's some extent of weirdness about a "commercial org"), but that seems marginal.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time and letting my know your thoughts on the pros/cons of this.

It is not a paid membership site nor does it sell physical products, but it is a review site (not a single page site, but a site which covers the whole realm of this particular niche) that I would like to grow into a site which produces quality content and info for the user. However, the reviews will be promoting CPA offers.

      Thanks again for the input.
