Having your own product?

I just wanted to hear from people who have their own product like an ebook of some sort and are selling and have affiliates working for them. I assume its big bucks but I want to hear from you guys to see how things are when you create and sell your won product.

I think you will always do better when you are selling your own product but not because of affiliates but rather because you know it inside and out and (hopefully at least) you believe in it.

Nothing is easy, but in your case, I guess it depends on what kind of problems you are facing now. If you cannot get traffic, then your own product won't help much. Without traffic you cannot sell any product, right? If you have a quality traffic, then you probably already doing reasonably well with affiliate products. In fact, affiliates is just one way to get traffic, there is a lot of other ways.

If you can position yourself with the product properly, that may be a different matter, of course. Then, if you are perceived as an expert, you can add backend products, high ticket items, and that would be your main source of income. But that's more of the positioning, not simply an eBook product.

If you have not make a single cent online, it's best
to start as an affiliate first.

The reason is simple, when you have your own product,
you need to know how to train your affiliate to promote for
you, by giving them keywords, articles, emails etc....

Otherwise, it will be a flop.

Use Tactics to create a stratgey for long term gain on your own product. Everyone out there had the ability to create products that people want, need, and will buy. Most are to scared to take the leap.

I might be dummy here, however i take a lot of pride in creating my own product, marketing it, and getting testimonies from people who tell me how valuable it is.

Find something your passionate about, create it, follow the passion, learn how to sell, and the windfall of money will be a by-product.

Moral to this, You can't make a dime, if you dont take laser targeted action with a tactical strategy in place.

The reason why I like owning my own product is the fact that:

    1) I have full control of price! If it's slow.. I will lower the price.. when things are moving fast, the price goes up

    2) I am the expert.. in my niche, I can offer private coaching.

    3) I can always add to the product and make it better.

I enjoy the creative process of developing my own product.. so for me, it's more rewarding.

It depends on what you are selling. Having a great product does not mean affiliates will pick it up. Also not everyone will appreciate your product. Many affiliates will completely overlook your product because they will look what's at the top of ClickBank category and promote those products. There are lots of better converting products, but not many affiliates will appreciate a great product with a great sales page.

As an affiliate I make multiple sales a day on products that have low gravity. They are great products with high converting sales pages but because there is lack of hype around them, several smart affiliates are banking with them, while they are thousands of affiliates who struggle to make a sale on the top listed products because there is lots of competition.

As a publisher of several products I do ok as well. I have lots of affiliates, however several of my affiliates make multiple sales per day each and every day, while majority of my affiliates make a sale once a month or once in two-three months.

When you publish your own product you will notice that majority of your sales will come from only a handful of affiliates, while majority of your affiliates will make a sale once in a blue moon.

I have tried to sell ebooks on Clickbank and PayLoadz. I have tested the whole procedure to be sure it is working.
However, frankly, I have not sold anything yet. I am eagerly following the rules and I am sure will sell soon or late.

I am a product creator, in the web application sense. I've just launched my second 'monetized' product today.

I think you are always 'likely' to profit more from your own products. Although you may get a lesser percentage from each sale than your affiliates, your affiliates will only profit from the sales they generate. Whilst you on the other hand would profit from ALL affiliates as well as from your own marketing efforts where you'd get the full amount.

I also enjoy developing new tools and products and understand them inside out, which someone has already mentioned above.

It's not just a business, it's a game. Why work when you can work and have fun.

To start off with though, introduce yourself to IM by promoting affiliate products. Get used to all the various medium available in which to promote with. ie - article marketing, sales pages, reviews, video reviews / demos etc. It's just a case of 'really' getting your post across, wetting ones appetite and funneling them to your sales pages.

You can always offer a cool bonus of some kind so they are getting more by buying from you. This can be a PLR product of some kind that you can freely offer as a bonus, you don't have to have a product of your own to give one away. Just check your license rights first.

Did you try to promote it yourself? If you do, you will see the roadblocks, you will hit and may be able to help those, who will be willing to put the effort into promoting your product.

Also, what help do you offer to your affiliates?

I prefer having my own product. I have more rights/control. I can update it, or take chunks out for blog posts and articles, or bundle it with other products. You can also add / mention self-created products in your bios and profiles as a credibility booster.

This is a Good Question. For over 5 years now I have been affiliate or reselling other peoples products. I am releasing my first own product in the next week (see sig) and there is a big difference.

I am more passionate and excited about my own stuff. You gotta go something that you are passionate about. For me it is marketing and coming up with strategies

Get some experience as a affiliate them create your own with somethig you enjoy.

IMO, if you can successfully launch your own product you are in the best position.

It is much harder to launch a product than be an affiliate, but if you do it right it is well worth it.

    Wow! Really great thread here.

I myself am in the midst of writing my own ebook (started 3 months ago and have yet to reach page 2).

Then again, I feel that it's worth it as it's your own blood and sweat writing about the things you ACTUALLY love.

    Now, THAT is priceless.

Selling your own information product or products is one of the best strategies for making money online, in my opinion:

    - You can market in about any niche that you want.
    - You don't have physical inventory.
    - You can use an affiliate program and have others promote it for you.
    - You can make an unlimited amount of money.
    - You can charge what you want.

Making your own product is wonderful, but there are time traps if you're not careful. Try to think of all problems that might arise with your product and address it in the help file or support area of your website. If you don't, the customer service emails may take you more time than you have planned.

Taking longer to release a product and address the problems ahead of time is much better than rushing a product to market.

The upside of having your own product is control and better margins. The downside is people steal from you. I have had to DMCA so many people I cant even remember... The bottom line is that you can make money either as an affiliate or with your own products and there are challenges with both. You just got to choose a course and stick with it.
