Default google keyword tool vs seo tool book ?

Ive been doing some backlink building on a good keyword i found (i still hope that it is)

In the google keyword research tool the keyword shows up at 49 000 for exact which divided by 30 comes out to 1633 searches daily

Sounds good but...

When i plug the keyword into seo toolbook keyword tool it shows that the keyword is only searched an estimated of 286 times across all the major search engines which is a huge drop from 1633.

What can i do to figure out which program is right so that i wont waste my time building links.

Every keyword tool will give you different results. I normally just go by the average. I would presume though the google keyword tool should be more accurate but taking the average is always a safer choice.

Still though 286 searches a day is pretty good provided the keyword has relatively low competition and is commericially viable!

Yea thanks just during my research this was my bread and butter word which i thought would be bring me a nice and sizeable income but now i have second thoughts.

I checked out the commerical intent in the microsoft tool and it rated it a .90 and im currently #5 on page 1 but not getting as much traffic as expected.

Damn you google and your inaccuracies!

Its actaully weird that you say to average ito ut because i just looked up another one of my keywords thats listed at 9900 exact and when i put it into the seo tool book tool is says it gets 397 searches per day

Now i'm more confused than ever even by following the strictest keyword research and finding some words i thought to be amazing is not turning out as planned.

You should just stick with google and never have looked at seo tool book then you would not be confused

No keyword is 100% accurate. It can be very frustrating. Just do some research and then you will have to rely on some intuition.

Google's keyword tool wasn't designed for organic Google.com search rankings. Therefore, no reason to curse at Google.
