It depends on your website, but the general rule: the more, the merrier. Think of social networks as "traffic platforms," where you can grow "market pools" that you control. The more you have, and the bigger they are, the more traffic you control and the higher and more reliable your income should become. Sticking to Facebook alone is a bad move, for the reasons given and due to issues of reach and whatever else FB have in store to dilute the quantity of non-ad traffic.

I agree with Tom. Social media is booming, everyone is using it. The more you join the more traffic you will receive. Some people prefer to use Facebook only, some for Twitter, and so on. It would be great to join all to target everyone then leaving some out.

From what I've learned over the years, it's best to first find where your target market "hangs out" then join and share just to those groups.

Once you know which ones are sending you the most traffic or giving you the most feedback, you can narrow it down even more.

For example, once I publish a blog post and a video, I immediately share each only to these social networking sites:

        • Facebook - to my profile page, my fan page and to a small select list of Facebook groups.
        • LinkedIn
        • Tumblr
        • StumbleUpon
        • Pinterest
        • Google+

And that's pretty much it. Anything else and it's more or less a waste of time.

In certain situations it helps, but not absolutely mandatory in all.

And if you do intend on using social media, don't not create multiple accounts from multiple sites because you're afraid of forgetting passwords.

Get a desktop/browser software like 1password or roboform to remember all of your passwords for you.

It really depends on your niche. For instance, if you're in an "embarrassing" niche, people probably won't be as inclined to Like and Share your posts b/c of the nature of the content. So it depends...

If you are going to add those social media sites, then I would advise you to spend a lot of time interacting on sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr etc. That way your marketing message is getting out. If you aren't willing to put in that effort for all those sites, stick to one like Facebook.

I agree that social media can lead to more traffic and sales, but there are other ways without using it. A simple squeeze page and good sales funnel can do the trick too.

I would recommend to focus on a few social networks at a time. Focus on the most popular ones to start with; Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Personally, I have joined the most popular social networks to promote my websites in. And, of course, I focus on a few at a time. But every time I update my blog, I share it on all of the social networks I'm part of.

There are so many social networks out there - and you can well benefit from all of them. But you have to work them right. And yes, it can be a lot to take on at once - that is why I recommend to focus on a few at a time. Focus on the most popular ones, first - and the work your way to other social networks.

If you take massive action with a lot of good social networks, it can really pay off!!

    I hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!

Social media platforms may get you good number of traffic. But it mostly depend upon you business/niche.

Those who are active on the social platforms to promote their business are getting amazing results.

It's totally up to you how hunger you have for targeted traffic and your success.

    Regards!

I can't imagine how you will survive today without social networks, as everyone said it will bring you a lot of traffic. I had my website in the past, it was not so popular at first. When I created my Facebook page, people started finding me and buy my product. It also helps you to stay in online connection with your customers, they can communicate with each other and dіscuss the product you offer. Furthermore, Social platforms are free to use, it's the first advantage

agree that you need to be on social media but not necessary all of them. As the previous posts suggest, just the major ones. Also, if you join them, please make sure you put in effort to engage your fans, followers, etc.

    Good luck!

I'd say create a facebook fan page for your website.
If your website is just like a personal blog, you don't have to create an account for your site. Just use your personal twitter/linkedin/pinterest or any other social media that you use

    Hey Joshua

As others have already mentioned it really depends on your website, your niche and the level competition you have.

If the competition is really low, then consistently send backlinks to your websites with high PR ranking each and every day will be more beneficial, and save you a lot of time.

If you have quite some ,competition then social media will definitely help you out A LOT.

Now should you just stick with Facebook or should you have multiple social media accounts?

This is very subjective and is completely up to you.

In one sense it is better to focus on one social media account to avoid confusion. In another sense having a few more accounts and putting in the extra work everyday to get followers and traffic is much beneficial.

Personally I have 3 social media accounts Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
Back in the day I spent hours getting followers every day (adding people, writing content , sending viral images, etc..) and it worked wonders.

However you don't have to do it, but at then end of the day the extra work will help you reach your goals much faster especially when it comes to ranking your website high in the search engines.

Social Media is very powerful when it comes to ranking your to your website in the search engines because most of the major search engines (Google, Bing etc...) love the social media platforms.

If you are struggling to remember your passwords, then simple create an excel sheet for every social media account you have and then save your usernames and passwords in the spreadsheet.
Then email it to yourself so that you don't forget them in case your data is deleted.
