Blogging - The Great Marketing Equalizer

Hello Fellow Warriors,

A friend of mine has a website on technology and he gets approximately 1,000 unique visitors a day of targeted traffic. It took him about a year and he blogs every day and sometimes even twice a day. He says the quality of traffic is very high. I am wondering if any warriors can provide me with some of your own blogging strategies as I'm going to be starting my own blog soon. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks J

    1. The number one factor is to choose the right niche. Something you can help others look at from another angle that hasn't been done to death. Plus, of course a niche/topic you enjoy more than sex or at least a close second.

    2. With so many look-a-like and sound-a-like blogs don't under-estimate good solid niche market research, it will pay off in the long run or blind side you if you skip steps. That's true now more than ever because thousands of new blogs come online each day.

    3. After you've established who your target market is ... You've got to find ways to separate yourself from the crowd so they can recognize you. And never stop looking.

There's much more, but those are my top 3..

Thanks The Niche Man. That was hugely helpful. I agree with you 100% for point number 1. Nobody wants to write every day on a subject they aren't interested in as much as sex.

Do you mean "And never stop looking" for new targeted market traffic?

So your saying the target market for blogs never stop evolving as a general entity?

Do you mean "so they can recognize you" by your blogs personality and integrity?

When you are talking about a good solid niche you mean as in micro niche? The big question is how much is too micro? That is where the niche market research comes in I would assume.

Can you build a successful blog and monetize is if it's only about an experience? It's not always about whether a product or service is involved with affiliate programs available to help monetize the website. Advertising could be another revenue stream.

If your willing I'd be interested in hear more of your viewpoint on blogging.

      Much appreciated! J

That's always true. But what I was referring to is never stop looking for ways to ...separate yourself from the crowd/competition.

So your saying the target market for blogs never stop evolving as a general entity?

That depends on your topic, market and niche. All blogs are not created equal. But that should be your goal, to choose a niche that's always growing and evolving. That means it's alive and will be around for
        awhile.

Do you mean "so they can recognize you" by your blogs personality and integrity?

        That's a given.
But this is what I meant. when I said, It's important to separate yourself from the crowd. "So your target market can recognize you as being the better person, business or product that can solve their problem."

When you are talking about a good solid niche you mean as in micro niche? The big question is how much is too micro? That is where the niche market research comes in I would assume.

Start with a niche and then drill down to a micro niche if necessary. And yes that's where your niche research is vital.

Can you build a successful blog and monetize is if it's only about an experience? It's not always about whether a product or service is involved with affiliate programs available to help monetize the website. Advertising could be another revenue stream.

Yes you can if you can attract the right targeted traffic by writing about your experience.

If your willing I'd be interested in hear more of your viewpoint on blogging.

        Much appreciated! J

I can attest, the motivation can wane when you're not seeing results.

The right niche is imperative too. My blog was focused on the way-too-general topics of working at home and working online. BORING.

I just recently refocused it to attract more Baby Boomers to the blog. I just did this a few weeks ago, so I have to be patient now, and consistent, in order to see what results the changes will make.

Targeting the older generation? That's terrific! When I was younger, I would see that kind of stuff and think, "Good Grief!" Now that I'm older too, I see that stuff today and think, "Thank God!" LoL

The older generation definitely has peculiar needs that other businesses just seem to ignore, so kudos to you for that.

Very true. And this is where most people fail in Blogging.

Can you keep going in those dark times when you are blogging to crickets ?

That will be the true test

I think if you have something of value to say in a niche that is in demand you'll always have some people following your blog and that is enough to get you through the dark times. I appreciate the warning of reality but if your building a brand anyway just keep on moving forward. J

I've been blogging 2x a week on JohnnyFD.com and never made a penny from it for the first six months.

Instead of giving up for going for the quick buck, I just kept writing about topics I believed would help digital nomads that wanted to move to Chiang Mai, Thailand and eventually my audience and my income grew.

Here's a rough timeline on my blogging profits from affiliate marketing:

        1-6 Months - $0
        7-10 months - $200
        1 year - $500+
        1.5 years to current - $2,000+

I go into detail in my course but basically as far as content goes, remember:

        1. Unique perspective.
        2. Personal
        3. Niche specific.
        4. Consistent, Free, Value.

Actually i do not think it so. I did blogging work first for my website. And do SEO work for my blog. I see many user (Unique User) come in my blog and read my blog. So i think not only blogging you need to do SEO work also for your blog. Then you will get visitor easily.

Thanks for clarifying those points The Niche Man. You know a lot about blogs and the inner workings of them. I'm all ears if you would like to post some further insights.

Tyler Pratt, it's not me who owns the blog but I hear what your saying. He didn't monetize it but I plan on monetizing mine. I would think even at a conversion ratio of 1/1000 I'd be making 30 sales a month based on 30,000 unique targeted traffic. Even if you cut that number to 1/2000 I'd still be making 15 sales a month. Not huge money by any means but still worth it as the point is to not stop at 30,000 uniques a month it's to build it to 30,000,000 uniques a month in 20 years time or sooner.

What is it you do may I ask? I take it your into list building? That is an area I'm very new at.

    Thanks again.

There are no mega-secret "strategies" with blogging.

You choose a topic that you're passionate/knowledgeable about, make sure it's a big market with a large demand for info and products/services, then pump out quality, genuine content on regular basis.

The first 50-100 articles not much will happen, but when you start to approach 150-200 posts, then things will begin to go uphill for you.

Thank you all for your replies I seemed to have had my thank you button taken away as I went a little crazy with it I guess lol. Just trying to be respectful and appreciative.

zdebx, I agree with you and that it no secret you just want to keep consistent and obviously you have to provide the value based content that a large enough audience will appreciate and enjoy.

So I would guess that with blogging you want to be not so micro niche like you do when writing an eBook? Different all together products of course so is that correct?

      Thanks J

Niche selection is not something that's dependant on whether you decide to create an ebook or start a blog...

The whole point of niche or market research is just to make sure that there's a large enough audience for whatever you're going to publish, because the method of how you reach out to your potential prospects doesn't really matter as long as there's a strong demand for what you sell.

Understood. So it's a balancing act between having something large enough to support the niche you've chosen but also unique enough so that your not completing with the world? Thanks zdebx. J

Without invest in any advertising copy learn from your friend:

    - he has a good niche blog, in which he can write very specific articles
    - he write for years EVERY day

    After that my suggestions are:

    - personalize your blog (colors, images).
    - use SEO
    - share with social media (create your social network Page)

    increase traffic with PPC!

Thanks winnermarketing. Essentially do the obvious marketing (SEO, Social Networking, Social Bookmarketing) and BRAND the blog in a unique attractive way. It goes without saying it needs to provide genuine value and be something people want to read.

I'll give you my best advice about blogging.

Remember Nike's old slogan: Just Do It.

    Yes, Just Do It.

We can all give you our recommendations and hints, but what works incredibly well in one niche won't work in another. What's unique about what you're doing? Just tell people about it and the results will come.

For all we talk about great content in this day and age....how many sites in your niche produce truly good, or even great content more than 1x per week. I write about wine and there's approximately a million wine blogs in English alone....there's only a few that meet my above criteria.

    Internal links are nice too

Read our most recent articles on wine, this month it's that unappreciated region called Napa Valley.

Regularly and constant written articles is most important. Write quality articles on your blog everyday or every other day. Ping your blog to search engines every time you post. Share your articles to all your social networks. Success ain't gonna happen right away but it will happen overtime.

A lot of bad advice above.

    J,

You don't need to write a new article for your blog everyday. Quality is more important than quantity, and someone who's writing an article per day is not someone focused on quality. I know, a lot of you will get upset, but that's the truth.

Also, I see a lot of you see blogging as praying: just write articles, and somehow the blog will grow. Some of you suggest SEO and social media, but SEO is unreliable (look at all the people who get hit with each algorithm change), and social media is for people who want to waste time, not focus and read articles.

Anyway, there's a lot more to tell, but I recommend you search the posts of (now banned) member Alexa Smith, and see what she does. She basically writers very high-quality articles, and then she asks other blogs/websites/ezines to publish them with a link back to her website. As people read the articles, some click the link at the end and get back to her website. These are real people, interested in what you have to say, not just people who liked the thumbnail of your article on social media websites.

As for monetizing, you first think of a niche, see if there are decent products and enough potential customers, and only then start a blog/website. Not the other way around, as your friend is doing.

Thanks Lucian Lada. To be honest I'm a novice with regards to blogging and gaining exposure so I don't know exactly what to ask. If you have something off the top of your head that comes to mind that you feel would be helpful I'd appreciate hearing it.

I do like what you said though in terms of blogging quality not quantity as I totally agree with that. If you blog quality people will follow you whether you have one blog a week or ten.

So it's really about generating a relationship with your readers and having them help you do some of the marketing by linking to your blog and so on is how I'm understanding it. That way you create somewhat of a team working together with you.

I would like to be able to ask more specific technical questions but I stated earlier I'm just beginning to learn about blogging.

      Thanks for your tips.

It took him about a year and he blogs every day and sometimes even twice a day. He says the quality of traffic is very high. I am wondering if any warriors can provide me with some of your own blogging strategies as I'm going to be starting my own blog soon. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks J
Make sure that you not only go into a niche that you like and know a little something about but one that is profitable as well. Do your research and find products before you actually get your domain name also.

I'm sure you do have one thing or more than you are knowledgeable about, consider that but make sure to also consider how much audience will be interested on that niche. You know it isn't that hard to get people to your content most especially if you are able to deliver what needs to be delivered; concise and consistent.

UNLESS your full time job start mid morning

You've got to look at a few things, I think this might have been covered already but I think it's all about the quality of your blog. You can have so much info on it - but some people are just not that keen to read a lot. Most people now days just like to be informed real quick, it's as if we want as much info in such little time. It all depends tho on what you are writing about - and making sure you have target audiences. As long as you really know what your talking about and if its about something that really interests you then you should be fine in creating a lot of posts. Having a few posts a week is good as well as it will help to put your website on top of others on search engines - like google. The more work that goes into your website the more keywords you'll have and so forth.

    J,

What I talk about is article syndication. Alexa Smith has many posts on this topic - she's an expert. So is Myob and John McCaibe. There are others, too, perhaps. Look them up, and follow their posts.

I also recommend you read: Turn Your Words Into Traffic: Finally! the Secret...Turn Your Words Into Traffic: Finally! the Secret...
This is a fantastic book that explains the process in detail. This should be more than enough to give you a good idea of what I'm talking about.
